The Research Vessel Investigator, the Marine National Facility owned and operated by CSIRO out of Hobart, is currently in Fremantle preparing for a voyage.

I was able to organise a tour of the vessel today for a group of fellow CSIRO Alumni.



Could only get rear pics of the vessel as they were loading gear towards the front.
The bridge and the ops area behind.



Chief Scientist's cabin (mirror of the adjacent Captain's cabin.) and twin-share crew/scientist room.
Rec area and the kitchen/dining area.



Wet lab for processing biological samples and workstation area.
Physical sciences workstations and water sampling array that can be dropped as far as 6000m.

Engine room was not open for visiting but the diesel engines drive generators for electric propulsion to make the vessel extremely quiet to avoid interference with acoustic signals.

The ICC Cricket Academy. We will be returning.

They have pitches that have come from around the world so International cricket teams can acclimatise to each country's pitch. It is colocated with Football and Rugby. The fields are impeccable and the Sports Park has their own water desalination plant.
