The view from my "office"

Beautiful part of the country. Keep up the good work.
I definitely preferred Matlock over Bakewell, much more scenic and chilled out.
I love the Peak District, especially Blue John country around Castleton, and then across through Chapel-en-le-frith and Whaley Bridge. Family used to drag us out there from Oldham/Rochdale area, through Snake Pass and then circle back. Lots of rocks for @RooFlyer to salivate over as well.

Device for monitoring garden weevil abundance. The eggs and larvae develop in the soil, adults emerge in spring and climb the vine stems as the inter-row vegetation dries. They shelter in the corrugations.

The big difficulty for management and control trials is that they are sporadic and patchy, but they can be severely damaging.

Gaahh, why didn’t I do something easy like geology or medicine instead of agriculture and biology? 😛😛

Never let it be said that you don’t get an education on AFF. 😉🧐

I did swing by Chesterfield briefly and snapped the obligatory photo of the church. Took a quick spin past the office I used to work at when I had to come up here for a few months many years ago which was mothballed a few years back unfortunately.

We hoped to stop in at Eyam, which had a very interesting experience with the plague so felt relevant in current times. But unfortunately the museum is closed!

Today's office was some hiking around Surprise View, Padley Gorge and Longshaw Estate in the Peak District.

From the car park at Surprise View, there's lots of criss crossing trails within a 2-3 mile radius; we spent about 4 hours hiking around, scrambling up rocks but the sheer variety that was on offer made it an interesting place to explore given you had the moors, meadows, woodlands and the rocks.

Was that recently? Is it also in the 'eastern states' (ie do we have to spray you when you come east)? :)

Well, funny that you ask. 🤓

As it happens, it was first recorded in Australia in some god-forsaken lonely place off the SE coast of the continent in the 1970s, perhaps getting there via some god-forsaken other country further east...

It apparently spread from there to the mainland. Perhaps you needed spraying in the past... 😁

I guess it's not a major problem in miserable cold places... 😜

No sugar anywhere near the coffee machine, got in trouble after I found some sachets hidden behind a plant at the bar and took one without asking first. LAX at omg o'clock, ugh.

No F&B service on board so the help yourself meal on the way out of the lounge was the only option.

Grim!

The view from my office today came after a short hike up to Bamford Edge, overlooking the Ladybower Reservoir and Dam. Stunning weather again. All changing tomorrow as the rain rolls in...... but back in London now and in full lockdown mode. Was nice to get away before that at least.
