The Velocity Status Run Master thread

So I guess the status run is a thing of the past now....
I've got 2 J return flights already booked but after them I'll still need 285 SCs to requal for platinum. Feeling like based on a $12 per SC spend domestic or short haul really aren't worth it.

I was planning a trip to Europe which I could move forward to June/July but even that is only going to net 120 or 140 in economy.

Any other suggestions?

Wait in hope for a double- or triple- Status Credit promotion. I would be moderately surprised if there weren't one at some stage.
How you think they'll work... 1SC for $6 or $4? Or 3 for $12?

Which international partner destinations still give a decent yield?

Yes it would be useful if there was a category on "achievements" for status run after the "new era " but I suspect it will not amount to much success. I do see thankfully some decent SQ flights but probably with limited VA value.

Sounds pretty bloody complicated SC per $4 or $6 or 2 or 3 per $12.....

That is just outright stupid and who'll even bother understand than nonsense.

As opposed to the tried & tested DOUBLE meaning twice as many, x2.

Ugly.

To nickle and dime it, the SC earn does round up - so you can get away with spending miniscule amounts less. For example, to get 45 status credits would technically require $540 of spend. But a fare of $389 earns 33, and a $139 fare earns 12 - you spend $528 to get 45 SC, although if you spent $528 on one fare, you'd only earn 44SC.

I'm not actually sure if return bookings are calculated on total cost or individual airfare cost though. So in the above example, it might be better to book separately?

Except for partner routes (which will be devalued anyway come October), this seems like the only way of "gaming" the system.

Do we know if the $12 / SC is inclusive of GST or exclusive? Also, if you have made a change, paid a $99 change fee and fare difference, presume the change fee is excluded from SC allocation?

Complicated?

Normally $12=1 Status Credit.

Double SC’s: $12= 2 Status Credits (ie. $6= 1 Status Credit).

Triple SC’s: $12= 3 Status Credits (ie. $4= 1 Status Credit).

“Outright stupid”? “Nonsense”? “Ugly”?

Really?

If you can understand mathematics at about Year 4 level, it’s none of the above.
