The value of a citibank reward point

Hi all!

Finished up with my short break and not enjoying the drain of being back in the office.

Have a quick question for you all, how do you reconcile the amount of reward points vs the dollars spent?

I also have a platinum edge amex card and the reward points match transactions neatly and clearly, making it easy to spot discrepancies in points rewarded (and in turn resolve through a quick email to their rewards team).

After checking with the Citi call centre, it seems that the same transaction style listing is not available. The maximum time it can take for points to be credited in is 14 days. Obviously you will be using the cc within those 14 days so is it almost impossible to reconcile the points that you have earned? The only way (that I can see) to have an accurate count is to stop using the credit card for 14 days and make a count then (very impractical).

Is this just an inconvenience that people live with due to the fact that its a decent 'premium' credit card with no annual fee for life (for those who got it on the F&F offer)?

Below is the reply from Citi regarding points reconciliation:

Dear wxxnxs

Thank you for your email.

As per our Rewards Terms and Conditions, we allocate 1.5 points per AUD
$1 spent on domestic purchases and 4 points per $1 spent on
international purchases of the total value of an eligible transaction
which is debited to your account during the statement period. This means
a transaction for say $30.99 would only earn 45 points. The ?cents?
component of the transaction does not earn points.

Furthermore, we advise that only retail transactions earn points. Please
refer to the list below for the types of transactions that do not earn
points:

- cash advances
- balance transfers
- special promotions
- fees
- purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques
- foreign exchange and ATM/bank charges
- interest charges
- finance charges
- government charges
- insurance charges
- payments to Citibank loan accounts
- purchases in excess of limits on the account, transactions made in
operating a business and if the account is more than $10,000.00 in
credit only.

For any Rewards points redemptions or enquiries, you may call Citibank
Rewards Service Centre directly on 13 CITI (13 24 84). We are available
24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We hope this clarifies things for you.

If there's anything else we can do to assist you, please let us know and
we?ll be happy to help.

Thank you for using the Citibank Australia Website.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

With latest Citi Select statement I've received flyer of items which may be purchased using reward points.

An example: Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet 16GB with Wi-Fi for 122,200 points. Retail price of this product at JB HiFi is $598.

You'd pay fewer points to buy SYD-LAX on VA in business class OW. As low as 86,300 points (standard 110,000) including taxes.

Foreigner you could use 91,375 Kris Flyer miles to go Suites Class to London or Los Angeles (saver points redemption) from Singapore.

Thanks cove. Far, far more valuable than the Sony Tablet valued around $600.

How much are taxes to LHR/LAX? And availability of suites?

I booked one way LAX-SIN for $361.47USD. I had to rush back home so I booked Thursday night to leave Sunday afternoon on Standard points so I thought that was really good. Saver points would have been wonderful but 3 days and go was the best for my plans.
