Preparing for our next trip and once again I ask, why do I pack this? A raincoat/splash jacket.

It's been around the world a few times now in the 5yrs I've owned it. Heck, even at Milford Sound, where its suppose to rain 200 days of the year, it stayed dry for the entire week we were there.

Now I'm afraid, if I leave it at home, it will bucket down.

What have you packed in the past that was silly idea/not needed/wasn't worth packing/had a 2am Danoz moment?

Hubby has a couple of tripods. He's carted that thing to multiple countries, only uses it about half the time. This is why I can never have a no check in trip because of that stupid tripod.

Ha!!

As soon as I saw the title of this thread - before even opening it I was thinking 'a plastic poncho from the $2 shop'!

It goes with me everywhere and I'm convinced one day I might need it. Thankfully it was produced in the days before biodegradable plastic.

Surprised sex toys haven't been added to the list... they seem to find a few of them at airport security

Yeah, me too. That and the $2 plastic mac, which never seems to leave my case.

The useless things I pack? Nothing. Ever since becoming a student of the school of HLO, I question everything which goes into my bag. If I'm not 100% sure that I'll need it at my destination (and with a little bit of leeway for items which I might not be able to purchase at my destination) it doesn't get packed.

Prior to that I used to take a massive bag no matter how short my trip was.

Running shoes........who am I kidding.

(also special mention for suit and tie when I go to India)

I also admit to packing 50 sporks to Asia.... I have since learnt to use chop sticks.

Mine was the $2 poncho that did a few trips with me and never touched. Then I visited Victoria Falls on a high spray day and it was worth it's weight in gold!

I have now upgraded to a $4 one from Ikea!

We took $2 ponchos to Europe with us. Needed them in Copenhagen and found their size to be too small to be useful for us!!

Bought 3 thick jackets to Beijing in winter. Ended up buying another one Beijing and wore that for the duration of my time there.

I don't usually take anything useless with me but I accumulate a lot of useless things from previous trips that stay in the luggage until I need more room in the luggage to fit things I actually need!

Laziness is an art form....
