Some events are unforgettable.Another moment etched in my mind is the moment I heard JFK had been shot.It was my sister's birthday.

I remember the Milperra Masacre as I was supposed to be there that day.
The friend I was going with rang in the morning to say he could not mke it so rather than go by myself I decided not to go.

I worked there !!! It was my "2nd" job to help pay for my travels. My aunty was in the kitchen at the time.

Speaking of which I think I need to get a second job :p

Speaking of which, the last young lady I took out for a "date" has blocked me on Facebook... I guess that means it didn't go well?

I think the time has come to ditch women and start dating wine instead :p

Whilst it sounded familiar (I knew the name), I had to Google it. I was in Year 12 at school...

Interesting. Received a text from SA Power saying the power was off here. It wasn't. Five minutes later the power went off. Of course I'd just put a roast meal in the oven which had started to cook.

I remember watching the funeral ... by myself in my unit (single and between wives at the time). I may have shed a tear or two and toasted her life with a very large couple of glasses of red...cracked from my cellar. IIRC it was a St Henri 1988 and was delicious...well it was my birthday ;)

So did you have 2 birthdays that year? Not good form drinking with all your mates :D

Wow, small world. As I used to live nearby I have been there quite a few times.
The pub was transformed a few years ago (read in the SMH IIRC) had now has a reputation for the food served.

I was there with a couple of friends (a father and son). We got there early and were riding away just as some of the bad boys were arriving in their colours.
We didn't think anything of it at the time - we went for a run to the cafe at Mount White (as usual) and didn't hear about it until the evening news.

I worked there from around 1978 - 1982 Tuesday & Thursday nights, Public Bar.
John ? ran the place, you were booted out if you swore anywhere near any female staff. It WAS a good place to work.
We will have some reminiscing to do in January.

Who knows what they were doing 17 years ago this morning?

I will be cold and say that I remember hearing it on the news with the usual "long uninterrupted news" coverage typically afforded to incidents of immediate disaster or conflict.

It probably didn't help that up to that particular incident, the Lady was not portrayed in a good light via the media (at least very poorly relative to her more memorable, charitable efforts).

To be honest, the passing of someone else "famous" less than a week later moved me much more, despite the greatly reduced news coverage (to be expected, but then again rather befitting of the person who passed away). (No, they were not a family member).
