The Time Has Come!

Well all, this afternoon I found myself questioning a moderators judgement. This is not an acceptable outcome for a social site and as such I believe I can hear the call "Time Gentleman".

Moderators of forums such as this have a difficult job dealing with people of all personalities, wants, egos, abilities and temperament and they do as a whole, manage it with great skill and understanding. No mod will keep everyone happy all the time and wearing that mod hat and being able to post and contribute as a member with the same interest as all of us, can be trying. What the mods don't deserve, is to be sniped at from behind the anonymity of a forum name.

To that moderator from today's exchange, I do genuinely apologise. It was uncalled for to say the least.

To the fabulous forum members I've had such interesting discussions with, I thank you all for your help, pererverance and tolerance. I've learnt a great deal from this forum, saved a lot of money, enjoyed the social interaction immensely and I've even come to understand those strange creatures that actually claim to enjoy daylight saving! :shock: (Naw, I'm kidding.........they can't be fathomed, honestly)

No doubt I'll stick my nose in from time to time, but for now if I may, I'll borrow a line from SamH004 (not to mention Douglas Adams), so long and thanks for all the fish.

PS....To VA, kick that lazy QF butt into action :mrgreen:

PPS...See all you DJ appreciation runners on Saturday, at least I hope I do...I can't do OLCI so I hope there'll be no akward time at BNE on Saturday morning

Ive had my run ins with mods on occasion as well, we are all human, I enjoy reading your posts as they are always sensible and well thought out.

Although I haven't seen the exchange (and from judgement it seems best that I don't), I'm sorry to hear you've decided to leave our community.

It was great to meet you in person and hope we can do so again in the future.

This is a shame, and like others I do hope you reconsider. Not sure what the issue was, you can always escalate to admin if you feel it is warranted.

Everyone has good and bad days. I certainly have different posting styles and attitudes at times.

If it is what I think it was, it seemed to be a misunderstanding that was quickly cleared up - unless there are some deleted posts. There is not much more I can say from moral high ground. But I don't think it is a reason to remove yourself.

I do hope you reconsider - moderation did not come into it¹; my post was made as a member ... and you are welcome to question any such posts that are made as a member.

There is nothing wrong with healthy/friendly/robust/discussion.

Everyone has their views and for them to be put forward accurately, without abuse is the name of the game. There is also nothing wrong with clearing up misconceptions, again without abuse.

Really there's little of any concern IMHO². Here's the genesis of the issue:

Yeah FWIW, I too think you should reconsider.

The quality of "Moderating" on the forum has become noticeably worse..... but this is probably in response to the reduction in quality and tone of the posters (myself included). It is possibly just a growing pain associated with the increase in membership (and also perhaps to the entry and perspectives of a new generation of posters). Whilst the earlier chumminess of the forum is being diminished, a wider range of views and styles should also enrich it......so stick around if you can..... (or at least reincarnate yourself)

The interesting thing that the whole original exchange reminded me, was that different people browse AFF in different ways. Some use the latest or today's posts features, while other prefer to navigate specifically to forums of interest. This creates very different user experiences.

Hi all, thanks for the posts and the support. That's nice.

I'd just like to say though, I'm certainly not departing AFF with a bad taste in my mouth, far from it. I've just realised that when a forum starts to alter someones personality, then it's time to have a rest from the forum.

It really is that simplistic! Serfty did not deserve backchat from me. It was unwarranted. No mod or admin has been on to me to apologise, that came from me and I can certainly confirm there is no pressure on me in retaliation for being rude. AFF is a great forum and one which I have really benefited from. No doubt I will post my thoughts in the future and I've also no doubt I'll be lurking around as well too, but I'll be just as happy to be in the backrow for a while. (and I do have a reno/extension to do and could use those lost forum hours back again)

I hope to catch up for a coldie in the Lounge with you all someday (at least that will happen sooner rather than later with some of you) and I'm really looking forward to a DJ OOL Lounge opening get together!

I read the OP last night and was not too sure what had happened.

I do remember reading your post and the response and did not think too much of it.

We all have different opinions and different ways of interpreting posts. I have had more than my fair share of exchanges with moderators and admin over the years and have been hanging on via a very thin thread but I am still here and enjoying it....
