Salivating at the prospect at a ride on the brand spanking new Q400, I dragged Mrs Platy on the long way home to CNS from BNE on the weekend - via ROK for a couple of nights to eat in the fantastic restaurant at Motel 98 on Saturday night and to do the Sunday drive scenic route by hire car through Yeppoon/Emu Park before a sunday evening chicken kiev in the trusty Criterion Hotel!!!
All going well at QFP BNE - get seats 2C & 2D (front row on right side) - then find sensational light, roomy, aircraft, plenty of power, a joy to be in with only about 20 pax!!!
Ooops, the PA annoucement alerts us to the fact that the one and only toilet in unserviceable!!!
We were on QOB, the second of the new Q400!
Instant panic and guilt ensue since I have booked Mrs Platy home Monday morning on the stopping flight via MKY and TSV to CNS by Q400 whilst I stay on, do my work and go home the comfortable way - afternoon Q400 to BNE and pick a J class seat on the 1520 BNE-CNS. Can't imagine they would expect someone to sit cross legged for the 3.25 hrs to CNS??? Will I suffer the wrath of a "held on for 3 hours" mrs platy when I get home?
Sure enough, see Mrs Platy off and QOB pulls onto the apron!!!
Sure enough when she gets on board the toilets are still not fixed two days later!
FORTUNATELY, it turns out it's just a LIGHT BULB!!! So the resourceful staff equip needy passengers with a torch with which to complete their business!
Not nice to see that a light bulb can render a (one and only) QF aircraft toilet unserviceable for at least several days!
But good to see some resourceful crew!
