The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Domestic transfer should be OK, if they allow it, but if QF500 inbound is late, you're screwed. And if you make it, chances are bags won't.

For the international connection, I'd estimate the time for each activity

Inbound may be 10 mins late
Collect bags - maybe 20-30 mins
To go to re-check-in, 15 mins (use machines & bag drop)
Security and immigration - think of a number. Allow 20 mins
Within intl - 10 mins

Say, 60-70 mins.

Boarding closes say 20 mins prior to departure (may be more or less?). So of your 115 minutes connection, you have 30-40 mins to 'spare'. I'd never do that, or rather, I wouldn't do that domestic connection prior to an international flight.

Agree with @RooFlyer advice above.

Would also be worth checking your travel insurance T&Cs regarding whether your rebooking costs would be covered in the event of delay on the domestic flights. In many cases you would not be with the flights proposed.

There’s a direct Jetstar flight from Brisbane to Osaka on the same day. If that’s an option for you, it’d provide a more comfortable transfer window.

Otherwise I’d give thought to flying to CNS the day prior and staying overnight.

Can I ask if I book 2 seats under my name on the same Qantas flight (to ensure neighbour free on regional flights), do I get 2 serves of Status Credits under my account?

Correct.

But you cannot book them yourself, you have tri get the call centre to create the booking with the extra seat,

You’ll also get double points as well as SCs.

Would the person sitting beside you be registered as a "no-show" by the flight crew?

Not if correctly booked as an extra seat, sometimes referred to as a comfort seat.
Yes - @Beano , here's some detail on adding a an 'EXST' Comfort Seat, from the Qantas Agency Connect pages:

Thanks. Good to know.

Hello AFF community.

Newbie to the forum, silver member.
Travelling with family to Canada and USA in June/July. Returning from Miami with 5 hours at LAX before QF12 departs at 11:30pm. While I have 4 general lounge invitations, these are of no use. Any tips on what to do during this time?

Welcome @Austang. What about heading landside and doing an In-N-out burger/monster fries run.

Not so much a Newbie question but I can’t think of a better thread to ask:

QF search engine currently goes out to 02 Apr 2027 (~353 days) but nothing has been released for Sale or CRs (beyond 27 Mar 2027 (neither Domestic nor International - AFAICS).

It’s been like that for ~5 days now and counting. Initially I thought it was an Easter thing but 02 Apr 2927 is past Easter, so I assume it’s QF rejigging their 2027 schedule post DST?

How long do they usually take?

Yes.
Have to phone book.

Don't book Mr X Thonads and a Mrs H Thonads online, that "other person" will be a no show and whole booking cancelled, but if you phone up, they will ask if it's a musical instrument, say no, and the booking goes ahead..
You only save by not paying flight taxes for Mrs Thonads.

For SYD, year 2927???
