So if my upcoming plans all go well, I should be able to go from SG to WP before my membership year ends on 31 Aug 2024. But it's highly unlikely I'll be able to maintain WP beyond this.
Having read this thread... Qantas Platinum - downgrading 1 tier each year if status not reached?
Is it safe to assume then, if I took zero (or less than four) flights on QF for example between 01 Sep 2025 and 31 Aug 2026, I could at least soft land back to SG for 2026-2027, but may hard land down to NB come 01 Sep 2027 if I also didn't fly enough between Aug 2026-2027?

Assuming you hit WP it before August 31, and even if you didn't take a single flight again with Qantas - then:

01-Sep-2025 to 31-Aug-2026 = Platinum
01-Sep-2026 to 31-Aug-2027 = Gold
01-Sep-2027 to 31-Aug-2028 = Silver
01-Sep-2028 and forwards = Bronze

Edit: sorry - realised you meant you'll make WP by August next year... updated dates

We should learn more about soft landings now that the free extensions are starting to run out. However Qantas has been offering people to use points to retain their status, which you may end up being offered. It's probably worth weighing this against status runs

Status Credits (not points) are usually displayed oer flight sector when clicking on the price for the fare type you're interested in

Hi All. Further to this (and this might be better in the lounge thread). If I am able to upgrade only 1x pax to First class and the other in business. Can both enter business lounge in DXB (I.e. a lounge downgrade for 1x pax). I also read it is possible to bring one gues in, so if that's the case I guess both could go into the F lounge anyway (not sure if award ticket has any implications on that)

I separated the booking PNR for the 2x pax today to see if I find that easier to upgrade per person.

Being an award have no impact on lounge access for Qantas or Emirates.

The real question is, can a First Class passenger guest another passenger on the same flight into the First class lounge?

Going by the following Emirates access page, the answer is no:

On the QF website, go to my bookings, underneath the last one it will say ‘Based on your upcoming activity, you may earn…’ Doesn’t account for earn on partner airlines.
 
Hi all, I have started flying international again recently and your good advice helped me decide on getting back on team QF rather than Singapore Airline's rewards.,

I see Cathay Pacific are doing BNE > HNK > BKK again and that is much more enjoyable than BNE > SYD > BKK. Is there any way that I can book through the Cathay flights Qantas to get QF Status and points? If so, how?

When you're making the booking just enter your Qantas Frequent Flyer details & number. Cathay Pacific is part of the oneworld alliance so you can earn points and Status Status Credits to any other oneworld alliance member, which QF is also a part of. But always check here against the class of booking: on the Earn Table here and cross reference it to the number of points and SC's here. Qantas provides a calculator also where you can select which airline you're flying with. It's mostly correct but has been known to be off sometimes.

(Generally) flying with partners will not earn as much you would if you flew with QF on competing routes.

Try BNE-SIN-BKK?
 
As CX is a OW partner airline, you can earn by putting in the routing BNE - HKG - BKK, but the earn might not be that great.
QFF earn calculator and QFF SC calculator should do the trick, do its a BNE - HKG, HGK - BKK, maybe 40 QFF SC x 2 in whY, o its more, 60 QFF SC, 30 x 2.
BNE - SIN - BKK as per Airwin will be faster, and the QFF points and QFF SC on BNE - SIN sector will be good, but SIN - BKK will be on thejr narrow A321neo, so maybe less lux than CX 350/777 via HKG.
 
Changing the name of travellers seems possible on CR tickets but is it possible to add travellers to an existing CR booking without changing the PNR?

To add to this, the fare class is one of the most important things to check if looking at how many status credits you will earn (and in general, this applies to earning status in other airlines/alliances too), and thankfully Cathay is transparent about this during the booking process on their website (unlike Qantas who only give you the fare class after you complete the booking).
Cathay's Economy fares (Light, Essential and Flex) can be tied to quite a few fare class buckets (via https://flights.cathaypacific.com/en_AU/fare-classes.html) - namely: Y, B, H, K, M, L, V, S, N, Q, O

Cross-checking against the links SeatBackForward has linked, you'll see that some Cathay economy fare classes (mainly the cheaper ones) will earn zero status credits and points if you tried to credit to QFF (e.g. S, N, Q, O), so again, it's something to double check.

Just confirming how the flexible fare refunds work for partially flown int'l tickets.

Base case: SYD-LHR return, Y flex prices today are $1,769 + $1,980 = $3,749 (for the dates most applicable if I did it as a return trip).
SYD-LHR one way $2,228.
LHR-SYD one way GBP 1,303 (AUD $2,516).

If I buy a return ticket but after arriving in LHR go and cancel the return segment, what refund will I get? Will it be the $1,980 I paid for it initially. Or, will it be $3,749 - $2,516 = $1,233 or a similar calculation but using the LHR-SYD fare on the cancellation day.
If the last option applies but all Y flex tickets have been already sold on the day of cancellation (i.e. no price is shown for it publicly), what's the fare base used and where can I find it to confirm the calculation?

I too am keen on hearing the answer to this, because I've booked a classic rewards seat on JAL and I can't select a seat either. First timer to classic rewards seats too :)
