The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

You would need to call the QF Customer Care(less) team for this (or wherever you booked the flight from). Alternatively, go through the check-in or service desk at the airport and ask them to change for the second flight (if any decent seats are available at that point).
Thanks!

Hi all. Hopefully the right thread for this question!

Family and I (2 adults, 4yo and 1yo kids) are booked Melbourne to Hong Kong via Sydney in about 3 weeks. We’re lucky enough to have classic reward business seats.

I’d previously selected a bassinet seat flying the ‘old’ A380 (2-2-2 business layout) Sydney to Hong Kong both ways.

I find out today the outbound leg (QF127) is now the ‘new’ A380 (1-2-1 business layout). Seems everyone agrees new A380 business is much better than old! BUT as part of the change we’re no longer in a bassinet seat on that flight. Seat selection tool shows those seats as unavailable.

Spoke to Qantas but all they could do was lodge bassinet request.
Only QFF silver status. Am I right in thinking there’s nothing to be done? i.e. can keep an eye on seat selection, but no other ways to secure bassinet seat?

Thanks in advance!

I have both Qantas F/F points and A/A Award Miles. I have noticed that American Airlines displays available awards flights from some not so popular locations to Europe however these flights do not appear on the Qantas F/F site. As these airlines I mentioned are partners of Qantas can I just ring Qantas with these flight details and book the flight using my Qanats Points?

For your trip to Honkers I would recommend checking the seat selection tool at 80 hours before flight departure. The reason being is Qantas blocks off the better seats in each cabin (i.e. bulkhead which has the basinet) for their Platinum and Platinum One elites. However, at 80 hours prior to departure Qantas releases that hold and a keen eye potentially find such a basinet facing seat.

Thank you! I’ll pop a reminder in the diary for T-80.

And if 80 hours is in the middle of the night, all the better. Set an alarm.

No, you can’t use currency (points) between programs.

Only AA miles will buy AA award flights listed on AA.com, and same for QF.

Have you tried looking on the QF sites for the origin in europe to a major gateway? So ‘not-so-popular’ city to say London? And from there continue on? Sometimes you need to use the multi city search to get combinations.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Also see if you can find it on other places like BA's rewards portal. That gives more of an indication if it's just an AA ticket or one more readily available to OW.

If it's just a case of missing airports on the Qantas website (and/or booking from an origin that Qantas doesn't support online), you just need to call up and do it via the phone. They'll waive the assistance fee.

The Qantas website is missing a lot of smaller airports around the world.

Just curious do we earn SC on CR for PC on QF Codeshare or AA?

Preference on QF4 JFK > AKL > SYD vs (something) > LAX > SYD on QF12?

Will be somewhere on the East Coast and J exists for both at the moment.

Hi all, Quick question: is the lounge in SG still open at 10pm until 6am, SG time? I have upcoming MEL-SG trip and will be arriving 10pm in SG and have layover for 8 hrs there. Thanks

Open until the last QF departure (QF1?)

I am not really a Qantas newbie but this is perhaps a noob question so thought here might be the best place for it as didn't think it was worth warranting a new thread for.

Early next year I'll be taking my first international flight with Qantas as a platinum and have ensured I am flying out of Sydney so I can finally try the First lounge! I am travelling with my partner (gold) and mother-in-law (bronze). Myself and partner are in J (hopefully F if upgrade comes through but not counting on it) and MIL in PE.

I understand that I can only bring 1 guest into the First lounge but my question is this: can I initially take my MIL and guest her into the Business lounge, and then leave the lounge and go into the First lounge with my partner? The system won't beep that I have already entered the business lounge and deny me entry into the First lounge? I know it's only the tired old Sydney international business lounge but my MIL is a hardworking cattle farmer from way out in the country and even that will be a lovely experience for her.

Your partner should be able to guest your MIL into the J lounge, then be your guest into F?

Have probably jinxed myself. Trying to book a reward flight out of XPL (Honduras) which is a new airport (eventually will replace TGU).

AA availability XPL-MIA-onwards in T (Y reward), QF CPT can see it, they can price the taxes, but XPL throws an error. The second time I called the agent managed to issue a PNR that I can view, and even view on AA - but it's unpaid. Agent said same issue, XPL throws an error. But at least I have a booking which is easier for subsequent calls.

Trying to use the reward escalations email to get someone to fix it but no reply after 48 hours, tried to call again this morning but got CPT again.

Seems the only issue is working out how many points to charge me, everything else is fine, it's even showing up in my QF and AA apps.
