I log on to give a luke warm Wozza 90 for the 6ft6 Geelong Pinot Noir 2015, and see one of my favourite Pinots (the Kupe Escarpment) is:

LESS THAN $70!

Back to the Pinot - if you like your cool climate Pinots nice and savoury, with some nice oak barrel notes, and you don't want to break the bank, then the Austins & Co 6ft6 Pinot Noir Geelong 2015 is a solid choice. The fruit didn't entirely stand up to the acid and alcohol if I'm being super picky. But the flavour profile was very nice at the $25 cellar door price:

- Pooley Butcher’s Hill 2015
- Pooley Cooinda Vale 2014
- Sailor Seeks Horse 2015
- Stefano Lubiana 2015
- Tolpuddle 2015
- Two Tonnes Dog & Wolf 2016

Peter Dredge also makes Meadowbank and Mewstone is another Tassie vineyard whose pinot noir was just rated 95pts by Campbell Mattinson on Winefront.

I still want Bay of Fires 2015 in case anyone from Melbourne missed my previous request for a spare bottle or two from Cellar One :)

Yes, sorry, I've been a little pre-occupied getting myself relocated to Hobart. But now that I've got a permanent roof over my head I'm good to go. :)

Here are my thoughts on the 2016 Dr Edge:

I will say at the outset that this is really not my preferred style of Pinot. I usually prefer a darker more savoury style of pinot, with depth and power to the fruit. This wine is none of those things. But wow, it is a truly beautiful wine. Excruciatingly beautiful really. The nose is delicate, with the gentle aromas of a damask rose garden. For a Tassie pinot it is somewhat light bodied, preferring delicate precision over power and finesse.

The fruit are predominately in the red cherry and strawberry spectrum, rather than my preferred darker fruits. Although the palate is beautifully perfumed and nicely layered. The mid-palate is not overly complex, but there are some soft spices, the lightest dash of vanilla and a gentle brambly sappiness. The balance however is sheer perfection. The tannins are fine and supple, and lead to a clean and seemingly endless finish.

It is undoubtably one of the most “beautiful” pinot’s I have drunk. It is a very polished wine. Is it my style of pinot? Not really, but it might just be good enough to change my mind! It’s not so much a question of it being good, but how good. An effortless and breathless 95 on CT from me, and I can fully understand JH’s rating of 97.

I'll keep an eye out for the Mewstone for you.

I know what you mean. It is definitely one of those wines that had me repeatedly going back to the glass to uncover more and more layers. I'm itching to get home tonight and finish the bottle. It will be interesting to see how it has developed overnight.

I have ordered the half-case that contains the three individual sub-regional wines. It will be interesting to see how they compare.

I'm not against this particular style, I've just never met one that left me feeling deeply fulfilled - until now that is. :)

This is a tempting offer given the scores. Good opportunity to try some somewhat obscure but highly rated pinots by the bottle.

I qualify for the 10% off too..... anyone tried any of these wines? I know That Delectable Blue was raving about the Dr Edge and that the Wanderer is a bit of a classic, not really heard of the others.

I have tickets for the Sydney Pinot Poolaza this year, hoping to bump into a few forum members at the event!

Not sure why you would give so much weight to scores. They've sourced the highest score by any wine critic and used that. It tells you next to nothing about the wine and whether you'd like it or not. Better off finding some actual tasting notes and reading those to see if a wine will appeal to you or not.

Sorry, this isn't intended as having at a go at you at all. I just find it crazy how much weight the general public puts on some advertised win score. I really feel people are just having the wool pulled over their eyes.

Meow! To some degree I agree with you, the purpose of the post was to stimulate some conversation on here from those that may have tried the wines so that I can make the best informed decision on whether this is a decent deal.

As well as taking some wines with good scores they've also taken wines with good pedigree, from standout vintages in The Yarra and Tassie.

Scores, should not be taken as gospel, but good scores from decent sources such as the Wine Front do help play their part in formulating an informed decision on whether to buy a wine that you've not tried before.

This deal has now been mentioned on Winefront, with Vinomofo apparently selling half of their 40 cases within an hour - even though it's better to buy 7 bottles from Nicks for free delivery :)

Hey Qaz,

It is a better deal on Vinomofo with free shipping (which expired yesterday I believe).

For those of us big Pinot lovers, the Vintage of the decade in Yarra (15') is being pushed out by the hotter and less structured 16' vintage, and I think this Pinot at this price is an absolute steal.
