You should sue QF for emotional distress!

QF28 last month SCL-SYD, was mentioned at check in that flight was oversold in Y. Had bulkhead seats. On board OPUP to a relatively empty J. Friend was left behind...

This followed a service recovery upgrade outbound.

Had opup 2 weeks ago upon check in at CBR for SYD-HND.
Almost always end up in J on SYD-TYO. Not so much coming back the other way.

Brother called me this morning, tracelling Adelaide/ Hong Kong today on CX direct, he is QF Plat on a OW redemption (economy) and was upgraded to PE at checkin and then after clearing immigration he was AGAIN upgraded to Business, pretty unusual i thought, must have been way oversold?

Nice one, Brother!

Love the idea of being op-upped on an award ticket (say, for my upcoming J trip on EY...)

I have only ever been upgraded once in all the years I have flown internationally and domestically (100s of flights). It was on a QF in 1993 on a sector between HNL and LAX, where my brother and I were bumped up from economy to business class. Funny thing was that were weren't even told at check in so when we boarded we turned right towards economy as we normally did - but immediately noticed the seat numbers on our boarding passes were lower than than those in the 1st row of economy - we couldn't stop smiling all the way to LA. We were never told why we were so lucky (were weren't even Qantas FF members at the time), so I can only assume that economy was overbooked and it was just our lucky day.

CX is exceptionally good at recognising OW status. It is not unusual to receive a one-class upgrade even on an award ticket. If loads were heavy in Y they may have decided, last minute, to convert the whole PE cabin to Y only service, hence the double upgrade.

Wife and I had op-up today from economy to premium economy on CX flight HKG-BKK booked using QFF points checking in after arriving on ferry from Macau.

First ever op-up out of economy on CX.

Congratulations JohnK. For both events (I think).

And much happy wandering

Had my first QF Op-Up on a BNE-SYD A330 yesterday..!

3 days before only a handful of seats in J sold, and Y was light too - so much so it was still on the initial fare bucket ($185), while other flights were higher.

Got the beep at the gate and it totally shocked me - when I saw the green 3F I realised what was happening but my colleague was confused and worried about our booking. Quickly checked the seatmap after boarding and J was full, Y had about 4 seats free (on an A332..). Don't know if they cancelled another BNE-SYD flight or if it was just massively oversold at the last minute, but I wasn't complaining!

NB Colleague had the time of her life, it totally made her day - still amazed (and probably a little thankful) I had her on my booking.

QF551 was cancelled so that probably had something to do with it.

Emirates flight MEL - KUL in December 2011. Booked our preferred seats way in advance and got a little annoyed when the boarding pass had different seat numbers printed - and then I saw the words Business Class up the top... :)

Are you sure you didn't trot out the old "we're on our honeymoon can we be upgraded excuse"?

Oh & congratulations btw.

LOL. Op-up total surprise. Flight looked full in economy and premium economy. Business class not full.

Intra-Asia the only difference on board with PE is the bigger seat. Catering is the same across both PEY and Y. It's quite common for CX to roll-forward on these flights.
