The old girl (VH-OJA) is not looking good for a 25yr old

It's an impressive effort from the old bird. Unfortunately Ive only just found out who she was so I didn't get a chance to say goodbye or give her the respect she deserved.

Edit: I've done a Flight Review of QF21 in VH-OJA and uploaded it onto YouTube:

Fantastic pictorial.. Thanks for sharing.. :)

I've created a tribute video to VH OJA with footage from my recent QF21 review. I've added in a few more things specific to OJA and removed some of the QF21 stuff (ie photos of the food).

Ill be out spotting at sydney to see her off on the last commercial flight on Sunday.

They turned it down AFAIK, they don't have enough space.

I do wonder where there's another museum with a long enough runway and enough space to park a 747!

Temora I suspect, David probably made an offer.

Great that she's not going to be scrapped!

Whilst going through some old photos, I realised I flew VH-OJA as QF64 a few months ago. As the OP said, she's showing her age. :)

Maybe the Australian Aviation Museum at Bankstown or the Australian National Aviation Museum at Moorabbin

Doesn't really fit with the theme (military).

But maybe too good an opportunity to pass up.

Longest runway is 2000m (~ 50m longer than LRE) so they should be able to get it in (just).

What about DRW? (same issue - not on theme!)

Darwin is a good call, and they certainly have plenty of civilian aircraft already in the collection.

Wellcamp looking to get into the museum business?.... Would be a fair old drawcard to the airport and region.

As I posted in the QF open day thread I started, she'll be going to HARS but they still have some technical details to work out, such as Wollongong runway being shorter than at LRE.

Got this from a captain moving to A380.

That's fantastic! I was just about to suggest HARS may be an option but assumed the run-way might be an issue.
How short is it? 100s of meters?

I live in Wollongong and have been to HARS and it's not bad! Luckily for me, the day I visited they were flying 'Connie' so I got a great view of her starting up and flying off. I might get onto a mate who works there and see if he can shed any light on the topic.

Shouldn't be too difficult when the southerlies are blowing. Or it could taxi down the F6 at 3am. :)

There is life in the old girl yet, last revenue service will now be QF108 ex LA on the 18th.

Then stored/restored in HARS Wollongong. But will it be a "sleeper" aircraft to be pressed into action incase of A380 IRROPS .

But then that would need 747 pilots crew with recency

It's a shame I'll have left the airport by the time she flies in on the 19th (unless I have the dates/times wrong and she gets back on the 20th... then I'll be in CBR.

She gets back on the 20th, as you lose a day coming home.
