Do you have a cc that credits to AA? That is the next step for me I think, however being Australian it's not all that easy...
Amex Platinum Edge, with 3 MR points for each $ spend at major supermarkets. Then launder through SPG to AA. The earn rate for supermarket spending is then 1.875 AA miles per A$ spent. Given the number of things that can be purchased "from" major supermarkets these days ( ;) ), its not a bad rate. And the rate for 1:1 MR spending concerts to 0.625 AA miles per $ if you want the miles.

Personally, I use the Amex for Supermarkets (and all that I can buy "through" them including hardware stores, booze, dept store stuff, movie ticket etc) and launder to AA. And then use WOW EDR for everything else to keep the QFF account active with enough earning for QF upgrades when crediting the flights to AAdvantage.

Overall its not a bad earn rate, and probably on par with what US-based people can do with CC spending to earn AAdvantage miles.

Suites class on SQ at Saver points. I have corrupted my business partners on SQ style.

Among some the best things I learned from this site I learned from this post!

www.webflyer.com/programs/mileage_converter/ I have never really taken advantage of hotel programs......usually book stays through Hotels.com when I travel but never built up points in 1 chain. Just learned I can transfer points from Amex MR to Virgin Atlantic then on to Hilton Honours for a 1:2 ratio. This means that 50,000 Amex converts to 100,000 Hilton Honours. Just found a category 2 Hilton in Hanoi......am planning a 7 day trip to Vietnam soon and hope to stay at Hanoi Hilton for 35000/70,000 Amex/Hilton points!!

Other valuable info gained from this site is the use of JASAs to maintain my status on Qantas/Oneworld and overseas travel using Qantas zone 10 RTW for 140,000 points. Started to ski regularly in Aspen and Whistler now. More insight came when I discovered I could do the same trips flying business class in Cathay for 160,000 points. Have not flown economy since.

But the best was definitley paying ATO via credit card......which has allowed all of the above.:D

Big thank you to all moderators and contributers.

I have learnt so much from this site. Here are a few that comes to mind:

Amex 10 transactions for 10,000 points - I think that got our first award flight and was hooked from then on
Paying ATO on CC
The WOW bonus points chase, still ongoing
Seat options for flights
The RTW for 140,000 points still yet to take advantage of
The great trip reports and as travel is a passion I learn everytime I read

And so much more........

Flying me and my girl on a points J fare MEL-LAX on the 380 and enjoying every second thanks to knowing when to find 2 U fares together!

Learning invaluable tips from travelers who've done it all before rates highly as well

Lots I've learned here, but if I had to pick one it would probably be ASAs - using these I've been able to qualify and requalify platinum, fly business class domestically, do the same for my family, fly first/business/premium economy internationally, indulge in the delights of the F lounges and all the other benefits status brings :)

All the great hints here which encourage you to do your own research, and most importantly, to think outside the square. Thanks everyone. JoyV

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

"classic award priced J/FASA's"

Richard what I have learnt so far;

1. Be very flexible with your dates.
2. It's much easier finding near classic level JASA/FASA's the earlier you book them especially for more than 1 person travelling. Check April 2014 to see what I mean.
3. When booking a simple outbound & return flight and you find a low point segment click on it & you will see many more low point options open up on the other segment. This also happens if you're paying cash instead of points. I haven't booked more complex flights but I assume it would still be true.
4. Most important, enjoy your business or first class trip!

JASA or NAN run combined with Double SC offers.

YUPP across the US.

T-80 and the list goes on!

JASA would be the main learning, but this thread has many other tips that I hadn't discovered before. I have been a corporate flyer with very poor use of points in the past, but now there's a lot for me to try.

Red Roo from Qantas setting the record straight has been a very big plus in the last few months in this forum.

1. SQ Krisflyer card - intro points.

2. ATO points by c'card payment

3. Links to Hilton Gold, Accor Plat and Marriott Plat Challenge

When I joined this site so many years ago, it was because of the Wizard (now 28 degrees) MasterCard. This card has been invaluable to me.

Also, JASAs. Love them and love the status credits I receive from them.

Thanks too for the amusement I get with this forum. It might be due to the fact I have to be so diplomatic in my work life, but I love the discussions with the differing points of view. I have popcorn out ready. ;)
