MEL_Traveller whether the story is 100% factual is not that relevant.. It is a great piece on the joys of champagne in first class.

But if you analyse his drinking, he had 8 bottles over 32 hours. 8 bottles = 64 UNITS of alcohol. Back in 1989, David Boon was alleged to have had 52 cans of beer to London. That is 52 * 1.6 units of alcohol = 83.2 UNITS. Assume that would be over 24 hours traveling to London. I would argue it is possible.

Importantly it is the pleasure obtained, which is the basis of the thread. I can obtain pleasure just from reading the 8 bottles of Dom story.

If my memory is correct a former Prime Minister once held the record for the greatest number of beers consumed between Sydney and London. Not sure of the statistics.

I have. Syd-LHR -SYD. Made no difference, I still felt like cough. So I figured I may as well enjoy myself.
someone earlier mentioned the caviar and icy vodka. Qantas F used to do a wonderful one, along with Sydney Rock oysters.

For internationals (usually HK or LAX ex Syd) I usually start in the lounge - just one maybe two of champagne. Water or juice before take off. Then champ until after meal. By time the meal is served Im on one champ/one water.
Internals again the lounge and then 1 or two wines if a meal. Not such a big amount for me.
