The great LCC Challenge BKK-SYD!

Yes they sell one type of wine and one type of beer on board AirAsia X. I flewn with them last month. They were ok for LCCT, the flight attendants were very attentive. It was not full, so many people grab more seats to recline.

I have been researching the various LCCs for the trip to Thailand next month and it appears that not much has changed in the last 6 months and there is still very little choice out of SYD unless you fly with JQ.

For not much more than the airfares on LCCs I can fly a mixture of CX business class BKK-SIN and BA economy SIN-SYD. The reason I am looking at BA is a saving of ~SG$140 over the QF flights. I am almost certain as a Oneworld Emerald I can pre-allocate exit row/bulkhead but not sure if they are still available in the one and only WHY cabin on the BA 777.

Is there a way to look at a seat map, apart from expert flyer, without having a booking on the flight? I am looking at returning SIN-SYD on BA15 on June 29 and I can see that availability is wide open

Can someone with access to ExpertFlyer please check the seat map if 26C or 26H are still available?

If your status is correctly in the booking you will have no trouble preallocating any available exit row seat online using ba.com MMB.

As far as the seat map goes; E/F shows 26H/J available, 26B/C are taken.

Have I mentioned how much I hate airlines?

I put off booking the flights and eventually BA become more expensive than QF. So I looked at QF airfares for a few days and it was increasing every day to the point where it was more than S$1300 for the return trip.

So I started looking at different routes and even booking via Zuji or Expedia. Then last Friday whilst sitting in the HBA lounge I was looking at the QF website noticed that the return was available for S$1253 with only M class available (S$444) on the SIN-SYD sector and V class ($344) on the SYD-SIN sector. So I booked it. OK, more expensive than I expected but I would be better off. Or so I thought.

Guess what? I receive a red e-deal email from QF Singapore today and the new return airfare is S$1061 with both the outbound and inbound flights at S$299 each. Not worth trying to cancel my original booking as it would cost S$200. I put in all the research trying to save a few dollars and then get it totally wrong. Why bother? I hate yield management. By the way there was a QF sale a few weeks ago for the same dates but the airfare was not as low as it is now.

When is the best time to book? The same has happened to me getting to the Kiwi Mainland Do in September. I purchased the airfares during a sale in April and with each subsequent sale the airfare for the same flights gets cheaper. No wonder people are fed up with airlines....

I guess the way to avoid all that hassle is to NOT travel.:confused::shock:;)

In this case I believe you have minimised your booking cost as much as realistically possible; Who's to say the fares would not have increased rather than gone down.

You takes your chances to confirm a booking, the later you wait the more risk you take.
