Oakey, RAAF? Curious.

Oakey's an Army aviation/helo base within cooee of RAAF Amberly, and what I saw on FR24 was relatively low-level ops out in the bush.

Been plenty of tankers flying in and out of Amberley for Pitch Black. There are Spanish, Dutch, US and British tankers heading in from the North West at the moment.

I can usually pick them up on my setup just north of Chinchilla or thereabouts.

I assume the A380 / QF338 currently over the Pacific is the charter for the LA Rams, coming for the NFL game at MCG Friday morning.

Interesting they are only arriving Thursday morning for a game Friday morning.
San Francisco 49'er arrived days ago.

Maybe different theories on managing time zones and recovery, but you also wonder if the americans don't understand that leaving LA Tuesday night, Wednesday disappears ...

I’d imagine the bill would have gone up significantly since the original bill assuming this was organised before the spike, I wonder if QF readjusts the fee or they just wear it.

Even just repositioning it to SFO let alone the flight fee, certainly would be a sizeable amount.

I'm assuming this is all part of the sizeable Victorian Government fee for getting the match to Melbourne. Will QF have 2x380 available to get both teams home to LAX and SFO on Friday evening? I heard the SFO 49s had 200+ on their charter.

Having arrived early the 49'ers didn't hang around on getting back to SFO, with QF337 leaving MEL at 18.20 this evening. Giving the Rams the proverbial "bath", maybe that vindicated their travel routine of arriving early.

edit, I see the Rams left even earlier at 1725 another QF A380 QF339.

Geelong charter back home after last nights loss in WA. They flew Virgin over from Avalon.

I was wondering how QF managed to have 2 of their 380s available simultaneously for these charter flights without impacting their normal schedule. I see they did not waste much time in the States.
VH-OQA flew down from SFO in time to become tonight's QF12 to SYD while OQL (LA Rams) is already QF94 down to MEL.

They cancelled flights apparently, or reshuffled/reallocated to 787. I’d imagine these are more lucrative, they can still carry cargo I guess, and likely more with a lighter payload above.

I guess charter rates in high fuel environment will take that into account so no doubt plenty of cash being made here.
