I'm heading back to AU in a couple of weeks and decided to give EK F a whirl BKK-SYD, as probably won't get the chance again anytime soon.

Have chosen my seat (1A), but if there's a better seat I should choose - let me know, it's pretty empty right now; had the entire cabin to choose from. Booked the Chauffeur as well, hopefully no problems finding my place, but I'm sure they'll contact me if any problems there.

Menu from this month looks rather good, and they have JWB on board, so I'll be very happy with that (of course I'll try their other whiskeys as well!!)

Any tips from those of you who have flown this route in F? I'm actually really looking forward to it, and hopefully the experience is a hell of a lot better than what was on offer in Y (on the 380) last year, where the crew seemed to be invisible and not at all interested. (A short, relatively empty flight, maybe they were chilling out.;))

Tried EK in F a couple of months ago, although on a shorter route (SYD to AKL)
Don't know if your an EK F virgin or just an F virgin on this route, so sorry if I'm rehashing things

Pros:
Completely closed suites
Really good FA's (on my flight at least)
Really really good food
JWB, although not at the bar at the back, an F FA poured me one which I then carried to the bar myself
Showers

Cons:
TV was very dull and difficult to see
Seats are not very adjustable, they had the bed position, they had the seat position, but there didn't seem to be anyway of adjusting just the seatback or foot rests.

Enjoy

Thanks harvyk for your input. I'm an F virgin totally, so have absolutely nothing to compare it to at all. :p Seat being either/or is a bit of a pain, but I think I can live with it; I'll just be sure to down copious amounts of whiskey to compensate.

Are they flat or angled? I absolutely hate the old angled beds in QF J - I was forever sliding down the seat. Not a great sleeping experience at all, although it was better than Y; just awfully bad for two knees that have been reconstructed several times, having to support me for an extended period.

I'm going to enjoy it regardless - with luck I'll have the chance to compare at some stage, but for now, I'll be living it up!! :D

Assuming it's an A380...
1A is too close to the toilets IMHO. I prefer 3A. 4A is too close to the door.
Bed is flat, but still has a a feeling of a headrest rather than a flat bed near your head
TV on newer fitouts is much better than older fitouts
Seat is fully adjustable on all fitouts using the tablet device.
Crews generally not great, so I usually keep the door shut to stop them bothering me

Have done a couple of F sectors between AMS and DXB over the last week.
Row 2 is preferable to 1. Row 1 is just a bit too close to the bathroom area up the front.
I don't think there's much to say, other than enjoy.
The beds are properly flat and I found them comfortable. The newer A380s have a much better TV. It can be impossible to see the little tablet on the older ones, but there's a control under the right arm rest.
I also found the seat adjustment fine. The massage function is awful, though. It does something, but I wouldn't exactly call it a massage.
If you want, ask for PJs and amenity kit if they don't offer them. I got a full goody bag on the night flight, but only slippers and eye mask given on the day.

We were upgraded from J to F on this flight (BKK - SYD) in January last year. Our first F experience. It wasn't an A380 so no shower or bar at the back. But everything else was the same.

Try the Caviar. Another first for me. And Dom. The seats are fully flat and an enclosed suite. Get your PJ's - they are very comfy.
These are taken from the BKK - SYD lounge then flight.

I'm going to get in on this thread as I'm flying both EK and SQ F in August.

Is the eat what you want, when you want really that. So if I wanted three servings of caviar (I actually don't want any!) I can? Does this mean that with other airlines (SIN), is it only 1 dish per course?

In my limited EK F experiences - yes, you can eat any time and nothing is off the menu at any particular time. I haven't had repeats of dishes but certainly been offered the full menu later on in the flight when asked, so my take is there is no restriction. But, my flights have been overnight ones where most of the cabin just goes to sleep so maybe the crew were just confident that they wouldn't run out. Probably different at the start of a flight.

I've done BKK-SYD-BKK a few times and the food has been very ordinary to say the least.
Some nice grog though.
You can peruse the menu and wine list in advance by using the 'See what's on your flight' function.

I actually wouldn't bother with F if they had a decent seat in J.

The BKK lounge is nice enough, but no there's wow factor.

Sadly it's not the A380 out of BKK, rather the 777. But I'm not feeling sad - I'll simply add the A380 F experience to the bucket list, and choose the carrier at leisure! :p

Make sure you try the Hennessy Paradis.

I shall indeed be trying that, along with the Dom (although that will be wasted on me, I'm not a bubbles type at all.) Fine whiskey & cognac is more my style, so I'll be sure to imbibe accordingly.

What to expect?

Bling. Lots of bling.

I too would go for mid-cabin rather than 1A.

Looking forward to the bling and I'll try to change the seat ASAP.

Have flown J previously, so decided to take the plunge for F - food I'll live with, but the alcohol selection is divine!! I'll be enjoying myself totally on that alone.

Pushka, thanks for the pics - gives me a good idea of what it "really" looks like - having shot for hotels, I know how we were able to make everything look "wow" when sometimes the space itself was smaller than our "wow" shot actually showed.:D

From my limited EK F experience, both the 777 & A380, there is no discernible difference between the two suites, though as mentioned before the 777 has no shower or bar at the back. Some F food options also appear in J but more choice and very good wine selection. F is dine on demand. Ex BKK you'll be on a 777 to SYD. On the 777 was in 1K and had no issue with toilets, which are behind the bulkhead on LHS, though I was the only one in the F cabin!

Slightly off topic...

On the airlines where you get PJ's, I assume they ask your size or is it one size fits all if not what sizes are available?
