The Best and worst Places you've been to?

Best: Toss up between Petra (the only reason it was on my itinerary was because of Indiana Jones) and its so much more than that scene and Palmyra in Syria -actually I loved all of Syria and would love to take my kids there but can't see it happening any time in the near future!

Worst: Never had a city I really didn't like, loved Rome but found the major train station a bit of a scary place

A few people have put Alice Springs as their worst place.

I really have to ask where you have been?

Whilst Alice Springs is not top of the pops there are many/many places in this world that are much worse IMHO.

The best Place I've travelled: British Columbia, Canada... People are so friendly, Scenery simply Awesome and price wise it's pretty much the same as here.. I could easily live there no problems at all except my Grandbabies and family are here...

Worst Place: well I find LAX pretty iffy.and the Security People are not all that nice and kind to elderly ladies like myself.

Best so far in my short (yet somewhat broad) flying day's would have to be London: As a place anyway. I don't know really why, but I just loved my time there...even if we did eat Maccas daily & it was cloudy 99% of the time...wouldn't mind going back one day! (One day...)
I don't have a worst (yet) but Wellington would have to take the slot temporarily...the number of delays I've had there (For one reason or another) are too many to count - From those many experiences, future plans will have me flying out from AKL/CHC for international connections....

Intra. I travelled to Canada last year with Air New Zealand BsB/AKL/YVR return and have to say it was the best trip I had thus far. Air new Zealand were fantastic and Coach Class was spotless... Have not been to Wellington so cannot comment.

Best:

Very hard. Antarctica was truly exceptional. I love Bali, South America... If I had to nominate one best though, it would be Antarctica.

Worst: LAX, without doubt a total cough hole. Every time a plane lands it's like it's the first time it's ever happened. Oh my god! A plane has landed. What should we do?

Best Place: Vienna, Austria for its culture, history and fabulous cakes & coffee.
Worst: Dili, East Timor too sad and dejected for me.

That's a difficult one, so many great places and yet so many totally overrated places...

BEST:
  • Sydney. So much that I made it my place of permanent residency
  • Berlin. So much that I still feel homesick for it, even though Sydney is such a great place to live
  • Bilbao. Totally underrated in terms of city and so much more than the Guggenheim: Loving the old town, feel sad for all the unemployed young people but love the artsy and youthful atmosphere which probably closely correlates with it. Great place, great drinks, great food and most importantly, great people.
NOW FOR THE CONTROVERSIAL ONES:
  • LA: I love the place! Hollywood is awesome, Santa Monica is awesome and then you got Magic Mountain, Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm and all those great themeparks just within driving distance... Well, maybe it's just me
  • Paris: Now, I admit that for many many years I hated this place. But, boy, has it (and the French!) changed over recent years: Cleaner than Berlin, friendlier than Sydney and on top of that, cheap as pommes frites with the high Aussie Dollar! Started to love the place recently

WORST:

Worst: wanganui, NZ. Simply no reason to go there; it has nothing going for it.

With you on Wanganui. Once and never again! I also have a pet hate for Queenstown even though I know that may people will disagree with me on that: I find it overpriced, hard to get to (getting delayed in/stuck there, happens all the time) and entirely overrated. It's a big freezing cold tourist-trap, nothing more. And it's not that I hate New Zealand, far from it: I do love both Wellington and Auckland and most of the rest- Kiwis rock in my eyes! :p

Also quite bad:

  • Doha, what a dump in the desert, wanna-be Dubai with nothing much to offer
  • Indianapolis: I am getting stuck there for work faaar too often. Deservedly on this list I think
  • Canberra: Seriously. Let Sydney and Melbourne do a mud-wrestle competition or what ever but please, please make one of those great cities be the capital of this great country and not this boring, cold (as in freezing), inland artificial wanna-be Washington. Please!

Best;
The people's free republic of Footscray.

Worst;
Hard to separate this list of places I've been, never the less they are all cough for various reasons.
Kolkatta.
Tailem bend.
Honiara.
Los Angeles.
And an honorary mention to Cabramatta.

Best: Bhutan....if you haven't seen the firedance of the naked monks, or climbed to the Tiger's Nest temple then you really haven't lived.
Worst: Port Moresby. I lived there for 10 years. Ye gods!!!

POM - that would be like a life sentence!

BEST - I always seem to have heaps of fun in Singapore or HK

WORST - Nigeria, in particular, LAGOS and everything connected with this city, starting with the Airport.
Heartily agree about Lagos. I spent 6 months there and found it hard to enjoy getting held up at gun point at roadblocks and robbed, the corruption at the airport, the inevitable food poisoning, the food, and the stink. I did quite enjoy the live music scene however - it kindled a love for African music and I had one of the best nights out in my life there. Point being - you can find fun anywhere if you try hard enough.
Actually, now I remember it, a drunken flamenco night at the consulate in Karachi kind of hit a few buttons I wouldn't have thought would have been pushed in Pakistan.

AKL itself is great, as is WEL (Minus the sometimes VERY Windy Day's...); I was more commenting on WEL Airport and how things have gone wrong one to many times...sometimes weather delays, other times just random cancellations/re-routing...

Best: New York City, with Barcelona a close second
Worst: have had holidays with ups and downs, but nothing I would classify as 'worst', although I was disappointed by San Francisco - everyone I know loves it so maybe I built up expectations in my head but coughpy weather for the four days we were there ruined it! Would like to go back and experience it all over again :)

We must be the only people on the planet who were distinctly underwhelmed by SF. Either that, or the others just don't say anything.
I too would like to give it another go though.

I gave up on Indianapolis when Peyton Manning moved to Denver :)

Haha, waiting in line for the cable cars in the pouring rain and having Fisherman's Wharf completely deserted (as in the only shops open were the dodgy souvenir stores) because we went in winter doesn't help!

Best - Quillabamba, Peru. Locals are mad crazy and love to party.

Worst - Nogliki, Sakhalin Oblast, Russia. Strange scary place.

Resurrected thread - cause I found it interesting :) Mine are a little bit more eclectic than others - ex-occupational hazard.

Best:
Port Moresby - don't believe everything you here, get out from behind the razor wire and you will find some of the most amazing people in the world. (expat live here and love it)
Djibouti - only got attempted robbed once, when I was expecting more :) but had a hellova great time here when I was younger with some Legionnaires on leave
Rarotonga - just because I like chilling out
Niue - just because I like chilling out :)

Worst:
Goa - Sadly was there in torrential monsoon, no bars were open - and I swear the dead cat outside the restaurant made it onto my plate. I have to go back one day :)
Piraeus - Some part of it were amazing, others...! One night, found myself in a dodgy cinema - that I had to leave VERY fast... wasn't my scene.
Wellington - really? a great place? Only good to catch the ferry to the South Island
