I'm looking at options to get back to SFO to resume a DONE4 next year. My preferred option would have been to use Virgin Atlantic points on NZ, SYD-AKL-SFO. However, availability looks tight as I'd expect. One other option is Asiana from Tokyo. The VS points needed aren't too bad, even when added to the QF points I'll need to get to NRT from CNS, and as best I can tell, availability in J cabin looks ok. The VS points needed are less than needed for other partners such as SQ. Maybe this is telling me something but Skytrax rates them 5 star. I see from their website they have just upgraded business class. Even F is not out of the question from a points perspective. However, does any one have any recent experience of long haul Asiana in F or J?

I flew Asiana SYD-ICN-LHR last year (in J) Whilst I did get the old cradle seats, they were very comfortable.

The service (silver service all the way!) and food has to be the best I have ever experienced in the air.

We flew BKK-ICN-LAX in F on OZ. The seats were the old fashioned (a la AA coffin) seats - flat bed, not the most comfortable F bed but eminently "sleepable". And the service was really top notch - probably the best I have had. The food offerings (especially the Korean feast in F) were amazing. We also got gifts (Waterford bar set) and PJs (Gucci or similar brand).

If you can either do F or new J I would highly recommend it. ( i have read the old style J seats aren't great).

Has anyone flown between SYD & ICN on their B772 in J? I would interested in hearing about the seats.

It is either codeshare Asiana from ICN to SYD, or NRT-SYD on the B763 via CNS....

I would take the Asiana 777 any day over the QF 767!

Firstly the service and catering will be better on Asiana and the cabin is a bit lighter and fresaher also.
