The current publicly available Amex Platinum offer appears to only offer 150,000 points as a sign up bonus.
However, if you use my sign-up link in this post, 225,000 points should be available to you on signing up if you are approved and spend $5,000 within 3 months. These are transferable into 112,500 points with most Amex partners (including Qantas, Virgin Australia, Cathay Pacific and Virgin Atlantic).
If you are approved, I will also receive some membership rewards points (appears to be 50k).
I have had the card now for 12 months and have already saved over $2,000 on Amex Offers, another $450 on the travel credit and $400 in dining credits, so the card well and truly pays for itself before even taking into account the hotel/car rental status and the insurance benefits. It is for this reason that I have had no hesitation in keeping the card for the next 12 months, even without the sign-up bonus points!
