Forgive me, AFF, for I have sinned.

I had a QF business booking HBA-SYD-CHC-MEL-HBA but the SYD-CHC leg was cancelled and I had to call up to arrange an alternative.

The very nice Plat line lady tapped it in and looked for alternatives ... hmmmm she says. Its giving me Hobart - Melbourne - Perth - Brisbane - Christchurch . I guess you don't want the scenic route?

To my shame!! I said "I don't mind scenic routes, but not in this case ... lets keep looking ..."

It was only after I got off the call I thought What have I done!!! and a wave of AFF shame came over me - just think of the SCs! It was only that I didn't need the extra SCs that I didn't call back to take the 'scenic route' (plus a red-eye, and abt 18 hours extra).

Anyone else willing to 'fess up?

I have kept the faith - had a MEL-AKL in I class XLD on me today - auto rebooked 11 hours earlier. :(

I called and was able to re-route MEL-xSYD-AKL, only leaving 6 hours earlier, still in I class. 😇

With that, I've now bookings to reach the capped 500 WP SC's to carry forward to my next year.

I have flown Ryanair...twice.
I don't find anything too bad with this. As you say yourself, there are very odd routes in Europe when it's indeed very tempting to use Ryanair or Easyjet (if I had a choice, I'd select the latter any day...) over a long-routed zig zag flight across Europe to one of the major airlines' hubs and back and pay about ten times as much for the joy.

Unless of course you need status credits, that would easily excuse the more complicated and expensive option :p
