That Grand Old Lady.....

Won't argue about Concorde, that thing was art... So uniquely different with it's delta wings... So sad that I never had a chance to fly on one :(
I've also always had a soft spot for the B707... Probably because it was the first of the current modern style... (Never had a chance to fly on one either)

But the 747 is always my aircraft of choice.
From an aesthetic point of view, I loved the B707, B727, B737 family look. They were lovely in their proportions and styling. The B747 has that ugly "hump". It's a cargo design, and it looks awkward.

I can still remember Qantas's last B707 doing a flyover of Brisbane, must have been in the late 70s. A glorious sight.

Not that I'd want to fly to London or LA on one, mind!

I like the hump. Sets it apart from the rest........I also love the "humps" for wheel arches in the old Corvette Stingrays.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

But yes, one of the few beautiful American cars.

Agree, the 747 is a classic, the 380 is to me a hideous looking thing.

QF should have gone for more 747s not the 380. I doubt the 380 will have the longevity of the 747.

Matt
I had to check to make sure that wasn't one of my photos!

The A380 would certainly win second prize in an ugly contest! Not a looker.

However, when the A380 came out, to my eye at least the B747 suddenly looked very dated.

The way of the world is vanilla in everyday design. What happened industrial design, I guess it went to the cheapest end of town.

I think this comes down to a "it depends". There is certainly many interesting examples of architecture and design out there. It's just none of it has been built by airbus in recent history. Then again I think Simon Cowell put it best when he was once talking about design of vehicles "When you're sitting inside BA's F class drink in hand, you really don't care about how the plane looks on the outside"

I am at the other of end of the spectrum as I do not have any real attachments to the 747's. I have only ever flown a handful of flights with them before I was enthusiastic about flying, and then when I started becoming more interested in travelling, the A380's were now zooming across the skies. I then experienced my first A380 flight in early 2009 being QF J SYD-LAX and then realised there was no turning back:- bigger is definitely better. After that I somehow managed to get fly on A380 F on QF/TG/KE and J on SQ, Y on EK/SQ. Next July I will be flying SQ R where I get to experience those comfortable double beds :) and then followed by EK F where I will have my first ever shower on board a plane. Now, there is really no turning back for me.

The Blues Point Tower effect.

So long as I'm not sitting over that bloody enormous wing. I like being able to see the ground, not a vast expanse of metal.
