The fools at QF have scheduled a pretty tight (30 min) connection in MEL DOM->INT. They appear to be happy with this connection as the change is flagged as 'time updated' which I just need to confirm.

I am not too keen on a 1:25 connection even when I call to get shifted onto QF601 which departs BNE at 05:00.

There is no U availability direct to HKG or via SYD but I wonder if QF are willing to see that this connection could be a problem and open up U seats anyway (I requested these alternative options when I originally booked a few months ago and these requests were rejected). They are selling the QF601/QF29 1:25 connection so maybe not...

They did a similar connection adjustment for me last week into Syd but not as tight as this. They were paid flights though. I'd call.

30 minutes is totally inadequate. I would call them and see what they can do.

This schedule is too tight.. even both domestic and international terminals are in the same building

Ask them to fly Yu straight out of BNE. I find QF very easy to deal with when they've done stuff like time changes that are had to manage even when on bargain basement fares. Unless of course you're gunning for status credits.

This...just call them up. They recently changed my 3rd domestic flight for the day to a departure time prior to arrival time for the previous qf flight. Less than 5 minutes on the phone to sort out a Classic award ticket.

Even if you could somehow make the connecting flight (you wouldn't with it this tight) your luggage wouldn't unless it was on an earlier flight out of BNE.

Better than one we got earlier this year which was a 5 min DOM-INT connection at Sydney....

Not sure if it's something you'd want to do, but QF may entertain changing your BNE-MEL flight to the night before.

To update, I called QF this morning and I was able to talk myself onto the direct BNE-HKG flight which was showing only J flex availability and therefore could not be requested.

A very good result overall. To thank them for their efforts, this afternoon I made my first revenue booking on QF for about 10 months for a flight I was going to book on VA.

Out of interest what was your connection time in Syd?

70 minutes? The way Adelaide flights have been delayed recently and being Sydney needing the bus it wasn't worth the stress. There's only 1 flight to Bali each day and on a short trip it wasn't worth it. There was no issue at all when I called in changing - she thought it rather tight too.

Fair enough. I have a 1hr45 min transfer coming up in Sydney which is completely 'legal' but has me a little worried!

I'd call them. I like 2 hours. It's probably fine but it's also Sydney. Have the flights been changed after you booked? That would be a good reason.

I just found the old flight - it arrived at 15.25 and outbound is 16.55 so 90 minutes. It was originally arriving at 1500. They were happy to change but could see that it had been rescheduled.

Good result and good on Qantas- nice to see a positive story

Like others have said I do not think this is possible. Even if QF605 goes to plan QF29 will be boarding prior to you even getting to immigration and security.

No they haven't changed... I had to be on those flights for timing purposes and to make yet another connecting flight in Hong Kong. Just took the plunge.

The good thing is that I'm on the 530am QF Mel-Syd flight which has great on time performance so the risk is lower... not ideal though as yes I know, it's Sydney - anything can happen!!

Arrived 10mins early at T3 Gate 1 last Monday ... the rollerdoor at the end of the airbridge wouldn't open ... loss of early arrival!!
