I just returned from Las Vegas and have to compliment VA.

I was due to fly out of LAS to LAX on Delta at 6:15 AM to connect with VA back to Brisbane. I'd upgraded to business using points.

Imagine my disapointment when I got out of bed at 3:30 AM to find my Delta flight out of LAS had been cancelled and after frantic phone calls that Delta had re-booked me on an Economy QF flight that evening, unfortunately the Velocity call centre only operates Australian hours so I couldn't contact them, the out of hours line basically said they could do nothing as I was only entitled to the class I'd paid for, not the upgrade.

I went to LAS airport at the appointed time, not looking forward to a 20 hour journey in economy having expected to be sleeping in VA's lovely J class cabins up front.

It happened that the Aus call centre was waking up as I was queuing to check in in LAS, I called them on the off chance they could send me on a VA flight in J that evening. The guy was sympathetic but no seats were available, he then offered to put me into business the following day, I gratefully jumped at this.

So, I've just arrived home after getting a solid 8 hours sleep on VA8 with excellent service (I've flown this route a few times in VA/J and this was the best yet).

Many thanks VA for your great service both on the ground and in the air!

If DL rebooked you, then this would have been a DL ticket, correct?

I didn't think you could upgrade on VA if the ticket was DL, so that surprises me. I've also been told before by VA that they can't modify a DL ticket, so again surprised that VA were able to assist.

In any case glad you were well looked after, but interested to know how it was possible (for any future issues I may have!)

It was a VA issued ticket.

I was booked on a Saturday morning DL flight LAS-LAX which got cancelled (VA codeshare), meaning I couldn't connect to my VA LAX-BNE flight. VA's customer service seemed to be offline.

This part struck me as odd, DL had rebooked me on a later (still Saturday) DL flight and then onto a QF(!) flight LAX-BNE, the VA flight I was going to miss was lunchtime, the QF one evening, but they also booked me on economy, I called VA and got their offshore Cust Serv and they said there was nothing they could do, in Aus time this would've been around midnight and outside Velocity prem's working hours.

When Velocity Cust serv came online (I'm WP) I called them, this was Saturday afternoon when I was in the queue to check in for my flight out of Vegas. I was asking if they could put me back into J on one of the remaining VA flights that day via SYD or MEL. The Velocity premium guy explained both were full in J but offered to rebook me for the following day (Sunday) in J LAX-BNE, I said thank you, left the checkin queue, stayed another night and flew out Sunday, connecting with my nice J class seat LAX-BNE instead.

For me, I would prefer most of my time in J class to be relaxing, enjoying the service (food, drinks, drinks, movies). Sleeping is a part of it, though to spend most of the time sleeping in J to me seems a waste whenever I do it.
Though, I do appreciate the value of sleeping it seems a bit of a waste.
I'd sooner have 4 - 5 hours of sleep and 10 hours awake.
It's really down to the departure time and I tend to feel the main VA services - VA1/2/7/8/23/24 are mainly geared toward sleeping.

After a week in Vegas then a cancelled very early morning flight I needed sleep, and by the time we departed it was midnight, (VA8), I also needed to work the next day.

The sleep was great! I also completely skipped jet-lag.

Ah, I see. If it was a VA ticket then most of the experience makes sense. Still quite strange you were automatically rebooked on QF!

I had to read your post a few time to get my head around it. Flown out of Vegas more than I care to remember and couldn't quite understand how you were placed on a QF return from a VA booking.

All makes sense now, thanks to your second post. I am happy that you had such a successful outcome.
