Thank you for your loyalty

We got in touch with Qantas regarding the lifetime status credits issue. This is the statement they gave us regarding the reversal of this decision:

It doesn't look like they'll be changing their stance though on the status credits from the "thank you" gift not counting towards lifetime status.

More here:

Thank you Matt, you’re always helpful 👌

Your nearest airport?
You will be getting a loyalty SC gift bonus by 30 Sept at the latest.
And the normal 50SC or points for every 500SC (subject to t&c's) This is changing
Melbourne and I had forgotten about the annual 50sc loyalty bonus
Note that DSC don’t count to the bonus you get for each of the first 4 lots of 500 SC earnt each membership year. Only standard status credits count towards that. You can check in the app or on the website how far away you are from the next bonus. If 320 or less SC away and the flying you booked is in this membership year then great!
Great thanks for that👍

It is so disappointing that Qantas engineers a loyalty gift that is entirely useless for a good chunk of their loyal flyers.

It really isn't that complicated to build some flexibility into the T&Cs that gives a thank you back to everyone who supports them.

For the first time in a long time, I’ll actually benefit from a QFF Loyalty Gift, with this current one.

I’m not flying for work at all right now (I’ve been between jobs for a long while, in fact), but when my new membership year commences from Monday, I can plan on:
  • 50 SCs - Loyalty Bonus
  • 100 SCs - Points Club+ rollover
  • 50 SCs - Green Tier
  • 150 SCs - Loyalty Thank You bonus
Meaning I’ll only need to find another 850 SCs before Sep 2026 to retain WP for the 12th year in a row.

I haven’t got those SCs mapped out just yet, but I do have a few trips and things in mind that should allow for it to happen.

Cheers,
Matt.

I sent Qantas some feedback to say the bonus status credits are of zero value unless I have the option of getting them in the next membership year. Let’s see if I get a reply.
Yep, as I have already achieved status for next membership year and my year ends soon, this "gift" has ABSOLUTELY NIL VALUE to me. I'm just shaking my head at how INCREDIBLY stupid Qantas continues to be. If the recipient of this non gift has already achieved status then this worthless gift should be carried over to next member ship year. How can Qantas continue to be so moronically stupid and incompetent...oh wait, it's the illegally sacking & $90million fine company we are taking about.....

I'm with you Matt.

280 SC to retain Platinum (10 year)

AKL/BNE 80 SC (already booked)
Loyalty Bonus 50SC
Thank you Bonus 150SC

Sorted.

Aha! So you’re the ghost they’re trying to smoke out, LTG locked in and not a single flight in a decade. :p Is it true that people ditch QF for another airline once you had the LTG in your pocket?

LTG with not a lot of QF activity here...

80SC is totally lost on members like us, as anything below 1400 SC/year is not worth any effort.

Well Mrsdrron at LTG and 10 SCs in 2026 got 40SCs worth nothing and I a real bronze with only 10 SC s in 10 years but all of them in 2026 doesn’t get an email which really is as it should be.

Same here, my year ends in 30 days and I’ve attained platinum for next member year. A worthless “thank you “ from Qantas!

I've filed it with their myriad of apologies over the years….

It’s just a thought, wondering if there will also be a U-turn on the “bonus loyalty gift” SC’s not being eligible for LTG etc status?
Would be a pleasant surprise lol.

@Princess Fiona posted previously that she’d heard this may very well be happening. Obviously we won’t know for sure until it does (or doesn’t).

At last a bonus which is really going to help me.
Currently on a trip which will get me to 135 short of platinum renewal for next year, and 148 short of LTG.
I was bummed when I heard about the DSC not contributing to LTG. Then got this bonus which will get me over the line for both.
Happy days here. 😁

Did anyone else just receive an email like this? Mine says:

"Thank you for your loyalty. To show our appreciation, we're giving you 150 Status Credits and 2,500 Qantas Points. These will be added to your Frequent Flyer account by 30 September 2025 and will contribute towards your annual status. There's nothing you need to do in order to receive them."
I received 40! And no Qantas points. Clearly I'm only a little valuable! :-) Still, happy for them.

Tomorrow Qantas announces its full year results, and it looks like there's some promos on the way.

The 'twice as rewarding' page used earlier this year for a member promo (either DSC or Double Points on flights) appears to be getting a content update - double points on hotel bookings are confirmed for a week from tomorrow, and there looks like bonus points (double?) for Qantas Business Rewards members.

Might be worth keeping an eye on tomorrow!

Update - Promos are:
  • Double Status Credits or Double Points on flights (book by 3 September 2025, for travel from 4 September - 22 August 2026)
  • Double points on hotel bookings for stays where check-out is by 3 September 2026
  • Double points for businesses when a Qantas Business Rewards member books a flight (book by 3 September 2025, for travel from 4 September - 22 August 2026)
Changes to double SC T&C's: The DSC's don't count towards lifetime status (standard earn only counts), and anyone travelling on federal government funded travel is not eligible for this promo.

Also a separate one-off gift of status credits (40-300 dependent on status), and points if PC/PC+ (2,500 for PC, 5,000 for PC+)

With regard to the one of gift of SC's, Qantas understands that some members will benefit more than others from this gift. However, it makes no mention of those members which will get no benefit whatsoever from this as they will have retained or have bookings in advance to retain their status prior to receiving the SC's. Anyone whose membership year renews at the end of August will get a great kickstart to their cause for retaining status the following year.......what about those members with renewal dates in the immediate following months, and i am suspecting there would be thousands, that would have achieved their goal already?? Surely for those people, myself included, should get some benefit out of this gift by having these SC's at least count towards their lifetime status so they get some benefit rather than nothing at all which is grossly unfair. Qantas has been very good in the past at segregating its loyal members by putting conditions on redemptions, promotions and gifts like this so as to make them totally worthless to some members which no doubt, leaves a foul taste in affected members mouths for being nothing more than loyal to an airline!

In my case, having already made bookings in advance to retain my status with Qantas and partner airlines, i shall receive 150 SC's some time in September, only to lose them entirely in November! Thankyou again Qantas for recognising my loyalty and teasing me with a rotting carrot! Don't bother depositing my gift at all unless it will count for something!!

150 SC would not be enough to get me to push for P1. Had the gift been in the ballpark of 1500 SC I might have considered it. With enough flights to retain WP already 150SC is too little too late to make a difference.

I’m in the same boat, I wonder if qantas is running the numbers or has simply gotten the PR spike and now as usual couldn’t care less.

Not sure if this was mentioned above.
I am pretty sure the bronze windows for the sc is set to 2 sept to 30 sept, instead of 2 sept-8 sept, because there is a requirement for the member to be active in the last 18 months. They (IT experience boy) probably never had this request before and must have negociated a wider window to make sure they can build the script.
Other members (silver, gold and above, as well as Points club and above) by designed must have had this activity in the last 18 months, but bronze... not necesserly.

My 2 cents.
