Vinomofo is the best wine deals site on the planet. Good wines, real people and epic deals, without all the bowties and bs.

Will other carriers with lower allowances follow suit?

TG is a bit late to the party, most of its main competitors already have. EK, QF, MH, SQ, QR, EY, GA and VN all have 30kg. CX and BA seem to be the main outliers.

This would have made travel on TG in the *A heyday a lot more pleasant! Not that some may carry that much stuff anyway, but so be it.

CX and BA seem to be the main outliers.

BA uses a piece system all over. It isn't quite generous for those in Y, but for the other classes it's quite competitive or very generous.

CX are one of the few carriers I know that still use the old allowances, so 20 kg Y, 30 kg J and 40 kg F. Rumours have it that checking in at HKG many agents didn't give half a stuff, especially if you had status, but so there.

I suppose then TG is catching up with its competitors.

This will be good for my ski trips. I have been close to the limit before, once you pack 2 snowboards (need a choice!), all the gear, a selection of jackets and pants plus backpack, shovel, probe etc. Then there the stuff for the pre-trip, maybe a few days in Tokyo or diving the Surins.

It's not actually that hard to hit the old 30kg J limit!

Well at least not especially hard if you have to carry ski gear / snow weather gear with you.

Baggage allowance I think is a funny one in that it only really becomes important in outlier situations. The only main non-outlier situation that baggage allowance is important is when shopping becomes an important activity.
