Promotion is the fare description. You need to find out the fare class (booking class).

Thai's Royal Orchid Plus frequent flyer program is free to join.

If your flights to London are booked in W class (discount economy) you will earn points for 50% of actual miles flown. If you are flying SYD-LHR-SYD you should earn ~10,573 Q miles which is enough to attain silver status and 3,000 threshold bonus miles. Just as an example you need 45,000 points for return flight SYD-BKK or 85,000 points for return flight from Australia or New Zealand to Europe.
