Terrorist attack at IST airport

I'm sure it's being discussed totally in Turkey, I was more comparing the SM comments from individuals; compared to Paris, Brussels and most recently Orlando, my personal SM feeds (excluding newsfeed) has been silent. If I hadn't seen the newsfeed or read here on AFF, I'd have no idea that anything had happened.

By comparison, the other events I mentioned lit up my feeds like a Christmas tree.

I was referring to SM comments by individuals on my feed that are not in Turkey. The reason why I've seen comments is that we know someone in turkey at the moment.

Only way they could get around it would be like CNX - X-ray luggage and you walk through metal detectors prior to entry to the terminal. Of course, blowing yourself up at the door would cause casualties as well. . . . .

Which is what they do at IST ariport as well.

That's what they were doing at SAW and IST when I was there, although the entry security was immediately inside the entry doors. Not sure were the bombs were set off, but I'm guessing the coughs ran through entry security shooting ...

As I mentioned, twice, the video footage shows that they are well past those security check points. My recollection is that the security check is immediately at the door. It has been reported on the news this morning that the first attacker went into arrivals on the lower floor, then the second attacker when to departures on the upper floor, then the third attacker got people outside. Pretty standard herding type attack with secondary and later targeting.

My thoughts are with the victims families. The video footage of the terrorist determinedly detonating the explosives vest while lying wounded on the terminal floor is chilling.
Turkey is such a wonderful country to visit and the people are very friendly, with a soft spot for Aussies.
This is another blow to their tourism industry.

Yes you did and I'm not disagreeing with you! Obviously with more info this morning about how the attacks were carried out the relationship of the security check points at the entrances as observed by me is less relevant.

I got an email from TK today:

Dear Passengers,
Following the incident occured on June 28th, 2016, at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport, flight operations have been restarted. Due to the incident some of our flights have been cancelled. We kindly ask our passengers to check the latest information about their flights before their trip on our Website.

Not sure about less relevant. Important information regardless. Just that they obviously got around those checks. You probably have more recent memory of the security arrangement on the arrivals level. I don't recall any security at the entrance to the lower level.
