I'm on QF12 from LAX to SYD on Mon. It says the departure terminal is B. Would this stand for Tom Bradley? I always though Syd bound flights departed from 4?

Terminal B is Tom Bradley International Terminal. Qantas flights to/from Sydney moved to Terminal B when they started operating the A380 to LAX. TBIT is the only terminal at LAX with A380-capable gates.

Yep, that's TBIT. All QF flights have moved to TBIT since September 2008 due to the A380 services, except to BNE and AKL (ie QF 25/26) which remain at T4. :)

The lounge facilities are also better at TBIT although they can get full when there is a plane load of A380 passangers waiting to depart. If you are arriving from T4 there is a free shuttle service at night opperated by qantas so you do not need to leave the secure area of the airport if bags are checked all the way through. Enjoy the flight

Well I have approx 5 hours at the lounge between connections. I'm coming in from IAD.

I did like the flagship lounge at 4 provided by AA. Spent 9 hours there last year waiting for my flight and polished off a bottle of their makers mark bourbon. Needless to say it was my soundest sleep ever on a long haul.

If you are coming from IAD on AA you'll arrive at T4.

You can access the F/L there (don't go through security) until you wish to transfer to TBIT (I suggest no later than 1½ hours before the scheduled flight).

Qantas run an airside bus between T4 and TBIT from 4pm every day - it departs on the hour and every half hour. It departs from the same place as the AeAgle terminal transfer bus.

The bus wasn't running til 6. So I walked around to TBIT and am now safely ensconced up in the F lounge awaiting my departure. Also Qantas has upgraded me again without asking. That's 2 in a row!

Just a clarification on this.

On October 1st last year departures for:

  • All SYD/JFK flights moved from T4 to TBIT
  • All AKL/BNE flights moved from TBIT to T4
  • QF93 to MEL stayed at TBIT.

Is T4 now for BNE/AKL ARRIVALS as well? Or only departures?

If so, does that mean the dreaded bus to TBIT?

And do we need to reclear Security etc to get QF107 to JFK (bag drop etc as previously).

I am familiar with doing TBIT --> T4/T5/T3 for intl --> Dom and
TBIT-->TBIT for intl--> intl

but not the other way around.

Both ...

If arriving from BNE and clearing immigrations/customs at T4 you end up landside. See below.

Yes - for QF107 to JFK. If you arrive at T4 you end up landside - you need to walk around to TBIT and re-clear security. If you arrive at TBIT, after passing customs you follow the signs for (TBIT) transit passengers and re-clear security.

It's quite simple - in practice little has changed other than the terminals.

Thanks. I meant the airside bus that you used to (still sometimes have to) get from a "remote stand" to the immigration/customs hall.

Presuming by your answer customs/immigration is available at T4 so no need for the airside bus to get to customs/immigration.

That'll be easy as then (just operating in reverse to my prior "usual").

On tonight's flight we have to board at gate 108 and then it's a bus out to a standoff position. Had a nice old chap walking around the lounge here advising each one individually.
