This morning in the SYD Domestic J Lounge, it tried to connect to the Telstra Hotspot and rather than being presented with the normal big red button to Connect (for free), I was presented with the old 'pay for access' interface... I used the service in the MEL QF J lounge and at the SYD F Lounge last Wednesday without any problems.

I am not sure if having to pay this morning was a glitch, or if Telstra/QP have started to have customers pay for access again. If it's the latter, I will be very upset .

I've had this problem in the J lounge, especially when I sit at the back. Basically it's not picking up the free one for some reason, so it offers you (because your computer scans for networks) the paid one available across the airport.

Either switch your wireless or just wait and it usually comes back.

There was an announcement whilst I was in the the SYD J Lounge this morning to the effect that there was a problem with wireless access and that it had been reported to Telstra... "Qantas apologises for the the inconvenience... blah blah". That was soon after I arrived but I never heard another announcement about it before leaving just after midday.

I was mightily peeved because I checked out of my hotel early despite having several hours of internet usage left thinking I would use the QP hotspot. When I got the Telstra pay page I assumed I connected to one from the gate area below.

Altogether I was rather underwhelmed from my first J lounge visit.

Richard.

Thanks for the info Richard - there were no such announcements while I was there... Additionally, neither coffee machine was working properly - welcome to the premium lounge!

The coffee machines use the wireless internet connection and a VPN tunnel back to their management controller.

The coffee machine in the CNS QP wasn't working on Thurs morning either. For me, that's much more disastrous than no wireless.
