How do you do it? I have flown before without knowing whether I have flown Economy or Discount Economy and I figured that the easiest way to find out is when your FF points come in, you either get 10 status credits for Discount economy and 20 points for Economy. Is there any way to find this out/find out the class letter (C,H...) before flying, or before even paying for it?

Thanks :confused::mrgreen:

:D Thanks for that Evan:D that was the next thing I was going to look for, but how do I find out the class of a flight before I book it? For example, I flew Sydney-Darwin and when I got the FF points, I also got 20 SCs, BUT when I flew Sydney-Brisbane, i only got 10 SCs. How do I find out whether it is Economy or Discount economy BEFORE I book and pay.
Cheers

OOPS sorry I must have overlooked it, but from my understanding, Red-E-deal and Super Saver are both Discount Economy classes, while Flexi Saver and Fully Flexible are Economy classes? Is that right?

Thanks,
leny:D

When you click on the fare conditions say Flexi Saver it will open a popup window look where it says Qantas Frequent Flyer and it will say if that fare is classed as Discount Ecconomy or Ecconomy

Also if it is a route that Jetstar (JQ) also fly you will find that generally JQ is cheaper for Full Ecconomy than QF and you get the same amount of points and SC.

Thanks, I have tried that but they all just tell me 'Economy', I haven't found one that says Discount Economy, not even Red-E-Deal, which also just says Economy! :(

As mentioned by Tassiedude, you need to look at the part where is says Qantas Frequent Flyer. They will not and do not just say Economy.

For A Red-e-deal it says

Qantas Frequent Flyer
  • Classed as Discount Economy for Status Credit Earn.
  • Flight Upgrade Awards are not eligible on this fare.
  • Minimum 1,000 Frequent Flyer points.
For a supersaver it says

Qantas Frequent Flyer
  • Classed as Discount Economy for Status Credit Earn and Flight Upgrade Awards.
  • Minimum 1,000 Frequent Flyer points.

OH I get it now. I was looking at the top of the popup. Thanks a lot:D

The above applies only for domestic in Australia. For domestic in NZ all fares are treated as discount economy. Similarly for international (full Y fares are horrendously expensive).

If you go into you booking details on line using Qantas.com you can often see your booking class in brackets in the Class line.

e.g.
M class Example said:
...
Status: Confirmed
Class: Economy (M)
Flight Duration: 9h 00m
Check-in: Latest check-in is 90 minutes before departure
or
O class Example said:
...
Status: Confirmed
Class: Economy (O)
Flight Duration: 2h 05m
Check-in: Latest check-in is 30 minutes before departure
This is not always the case however; it really depends on several factors including who made your booking, what flights the booking is for, what carriers are being flown and how the booking was made.

If in doubt, you can always call Qantas and ask.
