Hi Skyring,

Your right, it was a fare from Civic to Tuggies...

The driver did end up taking your option 1, after I picked him up trying to go down King Edward Tce... I think they guy may have been trying to go via Kingston or Manuka and via the back streets. Either way he was most displeased when I told him to do a Uee. He did keep explaining how he was new and didn't know his way around, except once it became obvious I did know my way CBR and he couldn't take "back street" he magically found out he really did know the way.

So your TX-18, I'll keep an eye out for you, although it's very rare for me to catch a cab in CBR during the week.

For the record, your option 2 was probably going to be the quickest for where we where going, and the way I'd normally go.

Great to see skyring back on board. Where have you been hiding (should we expect a prose-esque TR any time soon??) :D

skyring - would the majority of cabbies in cbr support a fixed price airport-"cbd" (i guess a perimeter would need to be fixed)?

I'm so far behind on TRs! Typically I start off well when I'm long on sleep and time, and then I get sparser and sparser and when I get to the convention I'm having too much fun to write it down and it never gets done.

So I'm giving up. Places and plates. Hogjowls.com is my travel blog for America, and I'm working on a companion for the rest of the world.

Cabbie stuff goes into OneMoreFare.com.

A fixed price airport CBD fare would not be popular. The airport is too close and traffic conditions too variable. When the traffic is thick, the fare (and time) can easily double the minimum. If it were a fixed price set at a medium rate cabbies would be reluctant to accept airport work at peak hours.

Taxis from work into the CBD for meetings - I've learned my lesson regarding cabcharge...never let a driver see it before you pay, and its probably worth checking the machine is working by asking if you can pay on card. I hate having to argue at the end of a trip about there seemingly being nothing wrong with the machine and the driver insisting on doing a manual receipt for my cabcharge card... then pulling a dodgy and writing one copy for me to sign, and then trying to write out a new one for my copy (ie two slips of paper with different receipt numbers as they don't use the carbon paper). I really dont have time to be stuffing around arguing about them needing to use the ONE set of receipts...
I really have no problem with doing the manual thing. I've had a driver argue with me that he couldn't do a manual cabcharge, as the owner doesn't allow him to do them, and that I had to pay with my CC. I just told that I don't pay for work trips with my CC and demanded the phone number of the owner. Rang the owner at 515am and he sorted out the driver. The guy then tried to two docket trick. He gave me the first receipt, said see ya. I just pointed at the second docket and held out my hand. In this situation there is no point arguing about one set of receipts, just demand to be given the second copy.
