Thoroughly deserved ...;)

Tasmania has taken out honeymoon favourites, including Bora Bora and Fiji, to be named the best island destination in the Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific region.

International travel publication Travel and Leisure named the Australian state in its World's Best Awards for 2015, compiled on its website and to be published in its August edition.
Tasmania placed fourth in the world overall (88.32), behind the Galápagos Islands (90.82), Bali (88.98) and Maldives (88.53).

It ranked number one for its region ahead of Moorea (87.9), Great Barrier Reef (87.31), Bora Bora (86.11) and Fiji (84.78).

In my opinion places such as Bali and Fiji are highly overrated and then places like Bora Bora, Tahiti etc are too expensive.

Tasmania is a nice destination but preference would be in the summer. Was in Hobart ~7-8 years ago on golf trip in mid-November and there was snow in Mt Wellington down to 300 metres. It was so cold I was sure there were glaciers floating down Derwent River when I was playing golf at Claremont.

+1 for thoroughly deserved  Fantastic place for a vacation

The best time for golf in Tasmania is often late Summer until mid Autumn. The weather is usually sunny with little wind and 16 degrees in Hobart can feel more like 22 degrees in Sydney. I suspect they use different thermometers down here...

Claremont! Surely it should be Barnbougle and/or Lost Farm :) ? But yes, by the Derwent can get a bit brisk.

Some think golf, I think Tassie Pinot Noir - enjoyable in all temperatures....

I do understand that the weather can be uncomfortable for people from warmer climes and agree that the more stable weather during late summer / early autumn makes it a good time to visit

Claremont as well as Royal Hobart and Tasmania Golf club was a nice 3 day golf trip.

Barnbougle and/or Lost Farm for another trip when I can get some spare time.

Yes when Tassie thermometers say it is 20C my QLD one says it's 15C.:p
Despite that I am back for 9 weeks starting Monday so I either love the place or am losing my mind.:lol:

Love Tasmania...have been all over the island on my 6 visits there...scenario: leave work a little early on a Fri pm and fly from Syd to Lst, pick up hire car from Lst, have dinner in lovely little cottage at Cradle Mountain by Fri 8 pm....all day Sat, and most of Sun to explore, then catch last flight out from Lst / Hba on Sun evening back to Syd....lovely weekend away without having to take any leave. Exhausted Mon am at work....

I think I could live in Tassie

I lived in Tassie (Hobart) for nearly 4 years back in the '50s. Not born there, but it feels like going home when I return.

Lived on the water at Risdon. I remember the "floating" bridge, and the fantastic regatta on the Derwent. Swimming in the hot springs in the middle of winter, buying a box at the orchard and filling it with apples. growing raspberries out the back. And watching the Sydney-Hobart yachts arrive.

Love the place, and go back every couple of years.
