I received an email yesterday: "You're on your way to maintaining Platinum" and mentioned that I was only 13 nights away. Even though I was also only 2000 pts away and had just stayed two nights at the CP Perth. So I was expecting to clock over the requisite points and maybe direct my future stays elsewhere.

Anyway, so I Registered to receive 10,000 bonus points for next stay. CP stay posted today and picked up these bonus points that to my surprise are 'Elite Qualifying'! :p

So for the first time, I've actually secured IHG Platinum through stays (points) and now with 10k extra, staring down Spire Elite (if that is worth pursuing).

I think I got Plat through a status match and then last year received a targeted offer - Stay Once to Maintain Plat. I wish Hilton etc did that.

I am Spire and IMHO its not worth anything more than Platinum. I think I will slip down to Plat next year and am not worried about losing Spire at all

I think you mean (Unin)Spire Elite.
Yes, I gathered from previous discussions that it hasn't lived up to expectations. A bit like the replacement to Dining Rewards (MIA)....

Anyway, I do find that status recognition can be very hit and miss at IHG properties but I do like the earning and burning potential of IHG. So the 100% Bonus would be nice, but I guess I won't go out of my way to get it!

PS
Just remember how I got Platinum in the first place - signed up for DR a few years back and got a one step upgrade in status from Gold.
