I'm booked QF908, Weds a.m. - my usual FIFO outbound.
Normally I can snag a row 4 seat (it's a 738) at T-80.
But now it's about T-50 and rows 4 & 5 are still showing as blocked.
Is it just me / this flght, or has anyone else experienced this?

I have had something similar on one occasion when what was showing was not reality!
I/we were actually in row 4 but online showed us as being in Row 6. In fact the only reason I knew was that initially it would not let me do any seat allocation. When I spoke to QF they were seeing a different picture all together.

I have encountered this scenario a number of times.

Did you try to change your pre-allocated seat at T-80 hours? Are the seats blocked or pre-allocated? Perhaps there are passengers that have been able to get a seat pre-allocated in these rows at ~T-80 hours.

I tried initially about T-75
It would be unusual for them all to have been allocated so quickly.
They are still shown as blocked on Expert Flyer and unavailable with QF.
But I'm not too fussed, more just curious about how the system works.

School Holidays are making for some interesting experiences, I had the same issue on a 738 last week, the 767 connection was fine but the 738 flight never opened up rows 4 and 5, which in the end had a total of two people in each row.

I have noticed in the past a few times on flights to OLP (so not FIFO and publically bookable flight) that the first few rows upto 5 rows (1 to 5) are not available using OLCI, to then find that the blocked rows are empty.

I've had a similar experience. On a couple of occasions I found that I was only able to select as far forward as row 6 because rows 4 and 5 continued to show as blocked even within the T-80 period. Rows 4 and 5 only became available for selection in the 24-hour OLCI window and I was able to move up a couple of rows at that time.

Bill,

That could also possibly be due to an aircraft change as Y starts at rows 4 or 6 (depending on 737-800 v 747-400)

It happened more than once to me. Also seats can appears blocked taken, but spaced appropriately for WP once onboard.

cheers

Anyone else experienced quirks with T-80 recently ?

I'm inside T-80 for a flight next Tuesday and the cabin hasn't 'opened up' like I would've expected by now.

No, both my 5.55 and 8.30 flights on Tuesday opened, mind you it did seem to be T-79.5 rather than spot on T80.

Ditto. I opened at row 19 for my trips last week and ended up with 4A on both occasions during OLCI.:D:D

Opened up our flight for Monday at T-79:57 yesterday and changed from row 18 to 4A & 4C. Flight was to be a 767, now showing as a 737.

4B is not blocked. Hope no-one chooses it.

Just tried something else. Selected a different seat within the available 'status zone' (rather than waiting for the clock to tick down too much further) and BINGO !, for some reason that triggered the forward rows to open up. (Just a shame the really forward rows didn't ;)).
