I have been invited to a wedding in Las Vegas, sometime in July. Just have to meet them there. My $$$ of course.

Had a quick look at the Qantas website and it's around $3K return from Sydney to LAS.
Another quick play on statravel.com.au and l can get RTW with them (via Europe) for almost the same price.
Was also looking to get to Qantas Gold, if l could at a reasonable price too.

I have PM'ed Serfty, he said l might be able to go Jetstar to HNL and then AA to LAS. Cheaper option.

Just wanting to know if anyone has any ideas floating around....any help would be great.
Ps, l will be probably spending at least 10 days in the USA. Would Y'up or K'up on AA be the best option?
I'm a Silver with QP membership, but my SC's just got reset to 0 on 30/11 of every year.

Vegas on Qantas isn't really cheap. Presume it's the codeshare with AA from LAX-LAS that bumps it up.

The recent sale to America would have been good if you managed to do the SYD-AKL-SYD-AKL-LAX trick (which was briefly mentioned)

However, it is also possible that Qantas will launch another sale soon if bookings don't improve.

Jetstar to HNL is an option + AA to LAS, but not too sure on the current prices etc.

The cheapest way to LAS is JQ to HNL then HA to LAS (direct service, no need to change at LAX).

Obviously if you are chasing points and SC's then HA isn't going to help.

(No specials are loaded for July yet, however usually 2-3 months out you can get fares for as low as US$139-182 each way)

HA offer 2-3 direct flights a day from HNL ((HA6 every 2nd day), HA8 & HA18)

Whilst an A/P (Yup Kup) fare would earn good SC's out of HNL cost wise you are looking at US$2164 which IMO isn't that good compared to HNL to say CMH, BOS, ORD or MCO which earn a stack more SC's and the current cost to the East Coast etc is only US$2227

(another $63...)

Until some more airlines start doing the HNL-LAX (or mainland) route ever since ATA went bust, fares will remain high. HA seems like the only airline who offer half decent fares (Yes, there are some ok deals on AA however they are Q or W class which earn nothing in the way of points or SC's)

If QF points aren't too much of a priority and you also have a Virgin Velocity account, then HA will give you VV points.

I just tried a dummy booking SYD -> HNL -> LAS return with HA and got a price of $3100, so perhaps the JQ (or even QF)/HA combo might be the cheapest for you.

As noted here (and by PM) it is often less expensive to get to the USA first then start a separate booking from there.

On basic terms June is an expensive time of year to travel ex Oz.

Last week you could have got to LAX on Qantas return fares in early June from BNE/SYD/MEL for $1200, now it's $2700 ex BNE/MEL and $1800 ex SYD..

Maybe you could use one of the JQi specials in early June - $600 for a return to HNL, then a HNL-LAS return on AA for ~AUD900.

ITA Software: Login is showing HA direct to/from LAX ~USD900, AA is cheapest ~USD600.

LAX then rent a car from Alamo or National. Subscribe to Alamo's email list and each week they have specials, say a mid size out of LAX for $160 for the week.

LA LA Land to Los Wages is an easy drive even in a small car.

Careful with that.... Aussies really need CDW.. (no cc/homeowners coverage for rentals)...

Best to go for an all-inclusive rental IMO..... cheaper than added on CDW!! (Up to USD$21.99 per day...)

SNAP!

Yup... that's who we use too....

Never had a problem with them... They also have free one-ways in and between CA/AZ/NV IIRC.....

Only problem is they aren't available in a number of states...
