I am landing in Sydney from Bali on Garuda Indonesia flight and heading to BNE on VA, obviously booked separately.

My original landing was at 6 AM and aVa Is at 9 AM so I thought 3 hours would be plenty but now GA flight is delayed by an hour leaving me just 2 hours. We dont have any checked bags and both are in J.

I tried calling VA to see if I can postpone to a later flight but no reward seats available even in Y, I checked Qantas as well and the cheapest ticket I could see was $345 pp which is too damn high.

I have half a mind to risk it but would VA put me on a later flight if I arrive late or would I have to purchase one??

My hunch is that if you’re in Business on the Garuda flight and you’re one of the first off the plane, you have every chance of making the connection given you won’t have to wait for, or re-check, bags.

I once had to call VA and beg to be put on a later flight and they did so, but I’m Platinum. I think you’ve got a reasonable chance if it comes to that, given you’re Gold, but it’s by no means assured.

I’d probably risk it. If your Garuda flight isn’t delayed further, you’ve got every chance of making the VA flight.

Sorry I am no longer VA gold, I am just Red now. I am also AU citizen but got my citizenship very recently and havent been through SYD since becoming a citizen but it has always been easy before to clear immigration atleast.

I caught the Garuda overnight DPS-SYD flight myself just a few weeks ago. Clearing immigration with an Australian passport was very quick. I stopped at the duty free shop on the way out and still was out of the terminal within 30 minutes of landing. If that’s the same for you, you’ll be at the VA terminal within an hour of landing, giving you plenty of time.

To save even more time you could use the “secret” security screening in the VA terminal. It’s on the arrivals level, on the far right hand end as you’re looking at the terminal (past the Jetstar baggage carousels). There are never any queues there.

Thank you for the tips abt the secret security screening. I will update on Sunday morning sitting at the gate waiting for my VA flight to take off lol
