Hi Everyone

As you may (or may not have) seen on the AFF Facebook page, there was a positive response to an organised get together here in Sydney.

Now - us Sydney lot have been slack when it comes to events, and attendance has been marginal. Hopefully we can end this social drought by having an October catchup.

This thread is to gauge interest re: type of event and date. Please let us know if you're keen to participate. Please select all the dates you are available to attend.

Cheers

Hayden

Oct 27th as this is the option that has me in Sydney...

Can't make any of those days unfortunately as I won't be in Sydney for them.

Should a non-Saturday option be made available, I can do just about every Friday (besides the 12th) and most weeknights.

Isn't that the date for the AFF Gathering?

I can possibly make the previous weekend and will consider coming along if the venue is suitable.

Actually it's probably more correct to say AFF#6 clashes with Sydney drinks and F lounge options.

Well lets gauge to see what the response is - apologies for the potential clash samh004!

I'll keep an eye on the thread - The 27th doesn't work for me due to the OOL event, but I would like to catch up with some of you next time I am in town :)

Hi all,

I am a little late off the bat but I was away.
I am in Sydney most of the month so date shouldn't be a problem if organised in advance.
Now I know some of you guys are really fancy and like super ritzy meals and things... but I have been collecting jars and jugs and decorations and everything in between to have a high tea/lolly buffet (sounds lame but I really want to have one!) on my roof top which has almost the same views the shore school library does (city, bridge, luna park, etc). I would volunteer this space and my time (because I don't have enough friends for the volume of food I have decided on) to have a pre dinner drink or some such gathering on the roof. At the moment It can easily accommodate 20 people sitting to eat with more chairs but not more table tops.
We have a bbq as well if you wanted to have an informal dinner... am happy for afternoon/early evening and keep it as a high tea. I would be very excited to be able to host so I can get all the stuff out and show that it wasn't a waste of money accumulating it all.

I am not a chef, so not 5 star no 2 chefs hats here. I am a decent sweet maker because thats what I like - but high teas are mostly simple things and lolly buffet - well thats just store bought food.
We also wouldn't mind setting up a assembly line of burritos/tacos/nachos as an alternative.
Also, we do have alcohol but I would probably may just one slushy mix and the rest as byo because I don't really drink so I don't know about those things.

Any interest let me know :)

So good for everyone not going to OOL then

I'm not sure what the idea is with a few choosing not to come to an AFF event that has been in the works pretty much since November last year, but a thread for 6 months prior to this date. More frustrating is all the scheduling of things for the same weekend, knowing full well what is on.

I'm not especially bothered either way who does and doesn't come, but when you try to bring about community spirit, it's a little annoying to see the same members downplaying hard work. What hidden agenda am I missing?

I recall you were still thinking about coming to OOL for the BBQ? Probably could do SYD and OOL.

It's no worries, there will always be clashes. Completely missed this thread until now anyway, and it looks like a tie between the 13th and 27th anyway.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I think because of the lack of interest, and the clash in dates (which was unforeseen) it might be an idea to reschedule this in the new year. There is the OOL event, and then the big MEL event organised by munitalP - our cup runneth over with AFF events so another one which is under-prescribed is just overkill.

As an aside Sam, I doubt there is a hidden agenda to downplay the OOL event at all. There are probably people out there who are over the Gold Coast (like me for example - been there one too many times), or those who just couldn't make it up there that weekend... doesn't necessarily mean there is a plot to downplay your hard work. The OOL event sounds fantastic with great guests. I'm sure it will be awesome.

mine will be a standing offer
I thought everyone that was going to OOL had to sign up already?
I would have got some flights to OOL if I had of known.. now it might be too expensive considering we are already going away the next Wed.

last year I had half of my family and just about everyone from work, then there is 11 other flats with access.
It is funny. I spent my money, bought furniture, bought plants and made it a nice little roof top terrace rather than a flat cement roof and everyone gave me dirty looks for utilising my own things on the best night and in fact some people took over one of my tables when we napped after lunch and were pretty disrespectful about it. They are generally disrespectful through out the year also so I like to make sure I get the best use out of it (ie invite everyone I know to the roof on NYE).
having gotten my rant out of the way. We are not sure if we are having a party or going to the opera house event thing*, but generally we would not have a problem with a few extra people.

When everyone is standing there is a lot of room. But guests of residents have to stand at the back - but we have some bench seats so people at the back should still be able to see.

*it cost about $800 to cater for the people last year and the cost is $1000 for 2 of us for the opera house thing. We decided if we had a party this year it would be BYO everything - but I will end up spending about the same regardless at a guess.

FWIW.. I truly believe that Sam is doing a fabulous job & applaud him for all the hard efforts for the AFF#6 event.
I for one have locked in attendance & will be coming down from CAN/HKG especially for the event, which graciously look very much forward to. :D
Thanks in advance.
