A TEENAGE boy who jokingly threatened to blow up Sydney Airport on Twitter yesterday was given the shock of his life when he was met by Federal Police at Melbourne Airport. Anthony Palazzolo was escorted off a Jetstar flight in front of his parents by Australian Federal Police officers when it reached the gate at Melbourne yesterday afternoon after he posted a string of threatening tweets on the social networking website.
''I'm actually determined to bomb Sydney airport it's actually so s---. Melbourne's airport is legit perfection compared to this. whOOPS,'' the 17-year-old posted shortly before boarding his flight.

Given his age and general apathy and contempt for SYD Airport and SACL, it was always unlikely that the boy would get any more than a slap on the wrist, unless it could be proven beyond doubt that it was a genuine terrorist threat.

It wouldn't surprise me if he did it again, or at least started a general social media based slander campaign / petition.

As I said on Facebook, while the police have to take every threat seriously, in this case, and many others, it's not really a threat so much as a rant to get things out of your system. The police wouldn't have known he was just an extremely frustrated teenager and that SYD airport is actually a very bad airport (or maybe they know that last bit), but maybe it's time for him to make his accounts private, so his next rant isn't picked up.

Have they not taken the appropriate action though?
If it was deemed a genuine threat would the terminal not have been evacuated.
I think the visit on arrival at Melbourne hopefully knocked some sense into him (no matter how trivial the comments may have been)

I guess, but meeting him in the terminal after he got off the plane would have also worked. Then again, maybe the AFP boarding the flight didn't affect any schedules, it just seemed a little over kill.

Anyhoo, for my own personal point of view, it's Sydney all-the-way for me. MLB is a hovel compared to SYD. As the Honorable Sir Paul has oft-been quoted as saying "your either (living) in Sydney or camping out". Hawkey's an ex-Melb boy isn't he? High time for him to pack up his tent and head back.

I really have no issues with SYD - maybe some of the issues are pushed onto other service providers (i.e. hassles for HC plate drivers). My only issue is the entry to the QF DOM terminal at 6:30AM. It is a bit of a car park.

agree 100% ... and i'm fairly certain that i've seen signage around airports that state such JOKES referring to SAFETY/SECURITY will not be tolerated

If they were serious they wouldn't have let him leave SYD, seeing as that was the "target". I'd have thought they could order the plane to return to (air)port and deal with him there.

I dont think they would have tracked him down that quick, nothing to do with it not being serious.

How do they know he wasn't a graffiti artist?

The term "bombing" is used by Graffers to tag buildings with spray paint.

Good to see our law enforcement following up on non serious threats, instead of tracking down actual criminals.
