SYD > YVR - CX vs QF?

I'm looking at flights in September/October. I have to be in Vancouver, and then Dallas, TX the following weekend.

I was planning on doing SYD > LAX > YVR > DFW > SYD

But using the Qantas points calculator in Economy seems to show that SYD > LAX > YVR on QF is 75 SCs, but SYD > HKG > YVR on CX is 100 SCs.

Am I doing it wrong? Or is this actually the case?

"Economy" on CX is full Y class only... in reality you'd get a lot less than that since you would not book into Y class. I think it's 50 SC's on CX booking into the mid range classes, in similar mid range classes required to earn 75 SC's on QF SYD-LAX-YVR.

The price for CX vs QF is roughly the same, but the spreadsheet still needs some work.

Westjet would probably be better - a direct flight and I think its a 737 or A320. Alaskan is always via SEA and the SEA-YVR leg would probably be a turbo prop. But watch QFF earning on both airlines, if that's significant for you. Some fares may not earn.

If the Alaskan flights were more convenient, I would go with them, though.

No lounge for Westjet in LAX as far as I'm aware; QP members can use the Alaskan 'Boardroom' lounge at LAX (I think its all QP members - there are some threads here on that, eg here). At SEA, I think its only QF WP and above for the lounge.
