My wife just flew to and from Amsterdam with them. Food was pretty good, thought the inflight entertainment was a bit lacking, but said the service on all four legs was exceptional..said the FAs couldn't do anything more for her, proactive with drinks, checking if she was ok needed anything etc etc, every time she'd jump up to go to the loo there was a fresh drink waiting for her. Reckons it was great.

Service was OK. After the lunch service the staff basically completely disappeared. Definitely not proactive....
That was my experience too.

My fav example of proactive staff was on JL yeas ago on a 747. I was in Y, and once the meal service was finished, a couple of FAs sat in their seats at the emergency exits (facing me), and just waited serenely, until someone pressed a call button, and they'd jump up immediately and go and serve that customer.... was very entertaining to watch!

Extraordinary. Or, just doing their job...

My favourite moment was also JAL F.I was trying to sleep but was tossing and turning. So the blanket was in a mess. When the FA passed by she noticed this and very nicely tucked me in.I thought I shouldn't open my eyes!

Hi Dr just a quick question, were you able to choose your seats immediately after the booking went through?
I believe there is a 180 day period or something from memory?

There is some waiting period... it will tell you on the seat selection page if you are too early. The good seats do fill up fast on the sectors out of TPE to Europe. Getting in early is key.

Just to add, on the return flight I had a few days ago the service was even better. More attentive this time.

Curiously the self serve snack bar was not stocked for the return leg.

Just tell Crew you want to keep menu as a souvenir - I keep menus from almost all flts and never a query from any Chinese carrier

Does anybody have any thoughts as to the best seats for a couple?
I'm assuming one of the middle ones?
Thanks.
Unless you have an urgent need, I would suggest the window seats - stacked if you like.

I would avoid the first row as the crew use the storage area built into the area frequently.

I would also suggest the front section of the cabin as this gives you access to more toilets.

Thanks Dr, I will aim for the 2nd row onwards at the front section

And in case you weren't aware, there were no overhead bins in the centre of the plane on my flight. Means, that although there is still adequate room, the bins are only on the window sides of the plane and competition for space is more tight than I've experienced with other J flights.

I have always experienced excellent in-flight service and delicious meals on my CI flights over the past few years. I love their J class, especially on their A350s. Was looking forward to 2 more trips to Europe with them this year but 1 is definitely cancelled and the other one (at the end of the year) is looking increasingly unlikely to happen as well. And I got them at amazing prices too (both trips were <$3.7k)!
