SYD to MEL 737 or A330 in J?

I haven't flown domestically in quite some time (although I guess most of us haven't 😅). I see Qantas are running both the 737 and A330 - is one generally recommended over the other in J, or should I try them both?

Solution
It's a hour flight so it's really not that big a deal, but the 330 is definitely a preferred product for any flight.

ALso note during late Dec and into Jan there is a 787 on rotation... which has the same product as the 330 in J.
Over xmas there were 330 flying between SYD and CNS, I was wanting to book the same for this year, but every single flight shows 737 (not worth upgrading to J on a 737 imo) - where are the 330s being used? Surely 330s are better on longer flights than the quick SYD-MEL.
Probably its MEL - ADL - DEL, and SYD - ADL - DEL.
Or with PER now opening up, they might use it on that route.
Or they might be just parking their plane/s at an airport gate somewhere, not in storage, but they could just sit the plane at MEL Airport T1 gate 1.
Used to spend a lot of my time at that gate (gate 1/21/23), gazing at that big huge wide beautiful thing.
Gate 11/12 at the end tends to have blocked view.
There are some (fewer now too) JQ (wry grin) wide bodies flying around from and to CNS.
Might need photo id/passport (to do dom pax on an int flight)
Not ideal, but its a step.

Just noticed QF438 (MEL>SYD) is a 787-9 on Saturdays. Is this a recent change?
Qantas has been running a 787-9 weekly from MEL to SYD on Monday mornings last month, I was on it about 3 weeks ago. The schedule has changed for this month where it is Wednesdays at midday and changes again in April to Saturdays. I think they are positioning flights for international services.

The last time I looked the rotation of the 787 came in from LHR-DRW as QF10, next morning it goes to SYD and then departs as QF1, or one of the other flights. So it's making use of the aircraft in revenue as a positioning flight (although I would have thought they'd use the QF10 to feed QF93 but there may be an maintenance requirement on the ground.

I suspect this will change as more 787 int destinations come on line and they can't afford to have one sitting around for quite some time.

It's nice while it's on the route though :)

When they first introduced the Dreamliner they were using it on SYD-MEL quite frequently as training flights for the pilots, ended up in PE multiple times on a Y ticket.

I recently flew both products from Sydney to Melbourne. Here are my thoughts:

I agree with the 737 for intracity.
Done many flights of late in both, normally SYD-BNE-AKL. 737 Domestic, A330 ex BNE but 737 ex MEL.
The 737 I find are better seats with more comfort when sitting.
The A330 is good for the longer trips as they are cocooned. But I think the seats are darn uncomfortable and I cannot find my 'lazyboy' recline position.
It is only an hour and change flight, so as long as you get fed and watered and your row mate is not obnoxious, either one does me.
