Hi all,

I may be heading off to the US late this year -Nov/Dec and was looking for advice from those who've done it before, and ive also got a couple of questions.

1. Is there any way to get a reasonably priced Business Class ticket? As in under $5k?
2. My current plan is to go Aus-Sin on Qantas Premium Economy (pending seat reviews etc) And then take the Singapore Airlines Sing-NY flight on the 'long haul' aircraft in 'Executive Economy' dummy bookings so far means the cost comes out at roughy $4400ish. Am i missing something here or would this be the best bet?

Any other tips/advice is very greatly appreciated.

there is also a possibility i might be going elsewhere, so if a different thread pops up in the next few days don't think im going crazy!

You should try to price a Circle Pacific fare in Business. I did Sydney - HK - LA - Sydney last year (QF - CX - QF) for $7029. Not sure if it would be much more for NY, as there are three price bands based on mileage. At the time, a SYD - LAX - SYD fare in Business was priced at $13300 or thereabouts.

Thanks for replying :)

You'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge but what exactly is a circle pacific fare and how do you book one?

I believe that LAX-NY is pretty much in the same price band if your leaving Aus.

You could get a circle pacific in business to NYC but you would have to route via NRT rather than HKG to keep it under 22000 miles so for roughly$7500.
JL have a discount business class fare to JFK at about$7300 but the current fare runs out next month. For AA a similiar promo at about $7600 but once again runs out next month.
Plenty of other options-Air tahiti niue has a business special SYD-LAX for $5500(unfortunately for JFK it is $7900)
Malaysia have a special for business class at $6500 to JFK via KUL.
Eva Air are the cheapest with business at $4969 but you leave from BNE.And it is Eva air.
If you want to go the long way via SIN and Abu Dhabi then Etihad is $7600 business and $8600 in first.
Suggest you look at bestflights.com which does give most of the premium cabin specials a mention.
Re circle pacific fares they are based on mileage 22000,26000 for both OW and Star and 29000 as well for OW.
NYC does fit under 22000 from sydney if one leg via NRT-one crossing of pacific must be north pacific, one south pacific.I am not sure if NYC would fit under 22000 on star as I do not use them and coming or going to NRT I guess has to be vbia AKL putting you over the limit.

I have asked this before but never got an answer.. there is a mob that (used to?) advertises in the travel section of the smh paper (not online) with cheap bus. class deals.

I've never worked out where they are getting them from..

I understand that SQ is converting their non-stop US flights to all business class.... supposed to be later this year. I don't think that you can even book economy SIN-EWR anymore. ( on economy class)

On QF direct, good luck for anything under $15k at the moment.

When is "V Australia" meant to begin operating as when they start selling fares that may shake things up a bit

Could be the case, but the site does let you book it - its just a matter of working out when the aircraft is actually available.

Edit: V Australia is i believe not meant to start operating till late this year, and they dont have a site. Would love to go with them, but yeah, no site means no way you can price anything.

These deals look pretty good actually. (My knowledgable travel agent quit recently to go into banking and I've not found another one yet).

Out of interest - could you tell us your experience with Eva Air? I've never flown with them and am planning a lot of travel on the OP's route. Thanks!

I'd also be interested in an Aussies take on EVA air. Skytrax reviews not so encouraging :(

Spiggy, if you go before me, i expect a full report!!!!
