Hi all,

In November I am planning a holidays to Fiji and I thought why not incorporate this into a status run. I intend taking the following flights:

Day 1 SYD-BNE in Y (QF)
Day 2 BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN in J (QF/FJ)
Day 7 NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE in J (QF/FJ)
Day 8 BNE-SYD in Y (QF)

I am wondering, is there any pitfalls to booking this fare? I have tried to book Day 2 and 7 on the Qantas website with no luck. The only way I have found to do it is on Expedia looking for the 3 sector flights. Is this the only way to do it to take advantage of the slightly increased fare for 4 extra domestic J sectors? Is there any issues with baggage not being able to follow for 3 sectors in a day? I will book the Day 1 and 8 flights as a simple return red e deal. I also believe it is a bit hit and miss whether you get F lounge access in Sydney flying a QF flight number on Air Pacific.

Thanks in advance

To get the BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN routing you need to use the multi-city booking tool and search for BNE-MEL and MEL-NAN, for the latter selecting a connecting flight in SYD. I had no problems doing this last month for a trip in December.

From what I’ve heard and read, if you’ve booked this through the QF website and are a WP, you’ll get into the F lounge, as a few have tried and succeeded.

I dont think the multicity likes that Sam at present, its been crashing for me.

Has Qantas "enhanced" the multi-city tool for itineraries beginning in Australia and not allowing a separate domestic sector (eg BNE-MEL) before the international sectors (eg MEL-SYD-NAN)?

This has worked for me on-and-off in the past.

Possibly, I was trying to do a long stopover in SYD last week and it would not let me....

Hope they haven’t wised up! Though with the content on these forums that is public… still doesn’t seem like a step in the right direction as there are perfectly valid reasons to route that way, well, not via MEL and SYD ;)

Yes I have, I know its not going to work when the first screen shows $$$ and all the fare options!

I had similar issues as the OP when I recentlyish booked a NAN status run. It took ages to sort out and quite a lot of "blue screen of death" before completion.

iI the result, the trip was great as was Fiji. The seat pitch on FJ in J is fantastic. Shame Qantas, shame.

I just had 1 go on the website and was able to price a BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN-MEL-SYD-BNE itinerary for AUD1342 without hassle. Wish I could post the screen shot.

Fri 15 Oct BNE-MEL
Wed 17 Nov MEL-SYD
Wed 17 Nov SYD-NAN
Mon 29 Nov NAN-SYD
Mon 29 Nov SYD-MEL
Mon 29 Nov MEL-BNE

Would love to book something like that for next year. I briefly tried moving the BNE-MEL leg apart last month but the price jumped up a lot :(

Why not book it now? The only condition would be that the BNE-MEL leg cannot be too far apart from the MEL-SYD-NAN leg.

Are you trying to somehow combine 2 trips into 1 itinerary. That is not going to be an easy to achieve.

I wonder if its my browser or something, these are the screen shots (business is selected):

It could be your browser but it could also be availability issues.

I have had that issue before trying to book an economy multi-trip SYD-SIN via woop-woop and while it would let me select the individual sectors it would always fail at the end. I managed to find a workaround in the end after persevering.

Interesting that it is showing Economy selected.

Are you putting in only 2 flights and leaving the 3rd flight blank? I have had issues with this type of before as well.

I am getting the same thing with a stopover in SYD or MEL and regardless of the timing (1 months or three months away), PITA.

Thanks for everyone trying. It is easy to book through Expedia. Does anyone have any experience with that? Do the flights still show up on qantas.com and can you still select seats etc. Is it just like using a travel agent?

I had the same result unless I did the full return back to brisbane...
If I just booked oneway to failed.

Excuse me for being so niave but is't this an expensive way to maintain or achieve a higher status? I am not sure i fully understand the status-run. :)
