Just booked the Hilton Sydney for an upcoming stay. I am a HH Diamond member.

Do you think I should try get a status match with SPG and try out the Sheraton on the Park?

Is the sheraton as new as the hilton?

thanks

The Sheraton has not been renovated as recently as the Hilton. It is a more stunning location and a grander entrance - but a little more old fashioned in style.

I would only status match if you thought you might be staying in more SPG hotels in the future - it would seem like a waste if you plan to use the benefit only once. By the reports of QF009 though the benefits of being top tier in SPG are much better than the benefits of being Diamond in HHonors (although Diamond helped me yesterday booking my stay at the Conrad on points :))

No, however if you intend to stay at more SPG properties soon, then it would be Yes.

It is not brand spanking new like the Hilton but the SOTP provides a different, old world charm feel. It is elegant, warm, and most comfortable.

Here is my recent stay at the SOTP, so you can judge the rooms for yourself:- (excuse my photo sizing)

The rooms at the Hilton are very small; I would go for the Sheraton any day.

Not if he is Diamond and gets upgraded to the Executive floor. I had an excellent room there last year (before I was Diamond) which I paid for though...

Some must be bigger than others - I was on the Executive floor a couple of months ago and the room was very small (and it was a twin room too).

In 2006 I was upgraded to a "relaxation suite" as an HHonors Gold; it was effectively two adjoining rooms with the walls removed.

Quite large with a standalone bath ...

Sheraton on the Park is very Good, however Westin at 1 Martin Place is a better Sydney SPG hotel with old Post Office charm. Harder to get into on points and 2000 more the SOTP.

I much prefer the clean line contemporary decor of the Hilton. However I've been treated very well at the 3 SPGs both as Gold and as Plat so little reason to move my business elsewhere these days.

Stick with the Hilton if that's your main program IMO. Status matches are once in a lifetime deals, and it'd be a waste if you won't be able to use the matched status extensively.
