You either pay 120k plus $650 then use 50k points to maybe upgrade a JASA or you pay 180k plus $700 for a FASA.

Nope, I am talking about changing a booked JASA to a booked FASA ;)

If you "change your flight" you would have a guaranteed F booking wouldn't you ?
Its not like the usual upgrade process where you are "applying" yeh ?

You learn something everyday

Does anyone know if you can only "change your flight" to F if your J flight is on a certain fare type ?
What fare type are JASAs exactly ? Are they all the same or does it depend on the route/aircraft, etc ?
Obviously cash fares can be D or J or I, etc.

you need to be booked in U class and have P class become available for the route.

Does P always become available?

Travelling SYD-LAX 27th May in J and, even when no seats were allocated in F I could use the Upgrade to FASA described above.
Certainly EF hasn't show P availability when I've looked.
Perhaps I should just call QF?

Ok starting my subscription to expert flyer, this makes it really worthwhile. Thanks to Markis10 and Nizar for making it blatantly obvious. If we ever meet outside of a lounge I owe both of you a drink :)
Now I just need to find 2 JASA's on an A380 to HGK from SYD at least I'm really flexible with the dates.

I tried August to November but will look again. what level of FF are you ??
I'm but a lowly silver. You need a decent spread to check out the dates properly, when you put your initial inquiry in, make sure there is at least two weeks between the dates and make it flexible so you can play around. The points seem to change sometimes if you pick a cheap outbound. For August though, I found this...

It reduces down to $695.40 w/ 180k points.

Interesting, thanks, nothing there when I search for 2 people but tickets for one....maybe go a day apart or I can travel in FIRST and SWTSMBO can travel in Y......I don't think so !

From what I'm hearing they are mostly single seats. You could try to book two JASA's on the dates and upgrade using cash as Markis was saying. They unlock award seats for WP don't they?

Yes you won't have much luck for 2 seats, I have been looking for the same in JASA/FASA with not much luck until October.
How about one travels in business and one in F? I was contemplating just paying for J class since they are discount atm and plenty of seats available.

They can but they aren't supposed/able to unlock P or U class seats (FASA or JASA), only classic.
