SYD DOM-INT transit time

I'm arriving HKG-SYD in Jan and looking to connect to a SYD-OOL scheduled 90 minutes later.

At least there are later flights if you do miss the connection...

AIRwin that is true, I should have mentioned this is basically a SC run - home is SYD and I'm returning same day. This is one of those HKG J fares VA sold quite cheaply in-and-out of OOL. I got lucky on the outbound, VA altered the flight time so I convinced them to move me to a SYD-HKG. My return however still arrives OOL. So I thought oh well more points and SCs and booked a same day OOL-SYD to get back. That also means I can't push the flight time out too much of course.

And this is the crux of the matter: connecting to HKG when there is only one VA operated flight per day.
OP what is your plan if the incoming MEL-SYD flight is late?
To the general community: does anyone know what VA’s general process is if this kind of misconnect occurs? Do they proactively reroute same day via SIN with SQ or another airline, or just delay pax until following days VA flight? What I think would be really interesting is if the MEL-HKG flight left later in the day and they rerouted pax back via MEL... due to a delay on a flight from MEL!

Now, from personal experience connecting dom-int and vv plenty of times in SYD, I’d say OP has a 85-90% chance of no issues. For connecting flights on the one ticket and no absolutely pressing need to be in HKG that day, I’d take that connection. In other circumstances I’d allow a longer connection.
