I'm hoping someone can advise re the SC situation for this flight, and what SCs they have received. Mr Jurahn flew HBA-SYD then SYD-CBR on Monday, latter flight being on Link. Under the current bonus SC promo, he received 80 SCs for the first flight, but 50 SCs for the second. All flights were on a single J booking (fare class D), and yes, I know there's no J on the Saab, and he would be seated in Economy, however my understanding is that the SCs should be awarded on the fare class booked? Or will Velocity argue that somehow that one flight has been booked under a different fare class?

I've (eventually) argued this successfully in the past and for that reason, I tend to avoid such flights as it was so frustrating trying to get the correct SCs awarded - it wasn't until the fantastic Velocity rep who used to be (but sadly no longer) on this forum became involved that I received the additional SCs.

I unfortunately can't find a link anywhere on his booking in his Velocity account (I have access as I take care of all the "admin" stuff LOL) to view the e-ticket, so I can see what class is against that flight - it doesn't seem to show that anywhere on the booking these days.

If you have the confirmation email it should be in the e-ticket attachment. Also, you may be able to look it up on TripCase.

I don't, unfortunately - he books his own flights, but hopefully still has the email and I can get him to forward it to me.

Looking at a D class fare HBA to CBR, D class is not offered on the SYD CBR leg, and it is advised to book in Y RBD. You earn based on the RBD booked / traveled.
If SC were important, should have been booked via MEL where true J cabin offered

As I said, that's why I avoid those flights as I'm aware it causes an issue, I always go via MEL if heading to CBR. I didn't realise he was on that particular flight until he mentioned it the day before. Making the booking is a bit misleading though - although there is a notation re seating in Economy on the Saab, the entire booking is done by selecting combined J fares (i.e. both flights in each direction are on the same fare selection, there's no option to book different fares if doing as a straight return booking, rather than a multi-city), and the fare rules on the booking only show the one fare class for all four flights, there's no indication that the SYD-CBR flight is allocated a separate fare class, therefore you would assume from the information available that the SC earn would be the same as the other flights. As I mentioned, I'd have to see the e-ticket to see what fare class is actually shown against the SYD-CBR flight.

Try the boarding pass?

Yes, I'll have a look at that when he gets home. I do know it will refer to Economy, as that's where he'll be seated, so I'd say he's probably out of luck, I just wish I'd known he was looking at that option before he booked it!

I was mainly keen to know whether someone else has been in the same position recently i.e. booked a connecting flight on a J ticket where one flight was on the Saab and what SCs they received.

Any luck?
Unfortunately not, I've checked the boarding pass for the SYD-CBR flight and it does indeed show a Flex fare class (Y), as does his e-ticket so won't be able to argue it, but something for him to be aware of for future bookings.

When I first came across this a few years ago, I'd booked a return J fare to ensure I had lounge access, additional baggage etc as my status had dropped to Silver after pooling to Mr J to help him retain Gold. The MEL-CBR leg was on a prop plane with Economy only seating, however my e-ticket did actually show a J fare class against the flight. Based on that, I was able to (eventually and politely) argue my way into the MEL lounge, and later get J SCs, however no priority boarding at the gate (not that I really bothered with that for such a small plane!). Luckily the additional baggage allowance applied all the way through.

Obviously the e-ticket and boarding passes now show the Flex fare class, but it's a bit of a trap for those who aren't aware of the fare class difference within the ticket and assume (as I did the first time it happened) that if you select a J fare for the whole booking, that fare class should apply to all sectors.
